I really don't give a shit about biting anymore cause it happens so often. When it all comes down, the right people know what's up.
Anyhow, seriously, stop getting on Jabba's case. They did that shit way before they even knew about Expression's show. And if you want to get even more technical, the "Hong 10" freeze was done way before Hong 10 did it. |

Rofl... The 720 sprinkler. Well there's an up side and a down side. The up side is no one is probably ever gonna bite that move off of you, and the down side is you'd probably never use that move in a battle..... OR WOULD YOU?

I'll just start off by saying the majority rappers today have no intention of supporting hip-hop culture. If you don't support the culture, then you aren't really hip-hop.

These topics are kind of played out for me, but lets see if I am becoming a better communicator...
To me, the whole point of bboying is to show yourself. You use your brain to come up with steps and postures with your body, and then you use your heart to perform those ideas to your utmost ability, think finesse, flava. But most people can't just go into a room and scan their brain and just come up with moves out of nowhere, out of a blank pallet. You need the inspiration to go into that room in the first place, and you need a few moves to start you off. Once you do those few moves, you flip them, maybe add a twist, trying doing it backwards, try doing it, then a twist, then doing it backwords, then try splicing that one section before and after the twist, and then add a foot switch and call it a bamboozle. Then from there you come up with all kinds of bamboozle variations as well as a multitude of steps to get in and out of the bamboozle. Ideally. But its easier for most people to want to be like what they see, especially these days with all the easy access to footage on youtube and the like. Even Storm, one of breakings great pioneers concedes that "the attitude, the rythms, the dynamics, the fun, the philosophy, the fashion... whatever it was we developed, we wanted it to look Bronx. If it turned out to be different, it wasn’t our intention". They created tons of moves and helped to create the whole European style because they had to, they had limited footage to watch. Its so easy to get inspired by videos, or anything thats real that you can watch. But to be original, you have to inspire yourself. Most of the time, you have to work hard to make some vague image in your imagination a reality. And sometimes, once its a reality it doesn't even look good, or isn't even possible. But your still creating, what your doing is still on another level then imitating. I think every human being has the creative potential to come up with their own moves. But some are definitely more powerful then others. Not only do they seem to have a tv in their heads to create mad moves, but they are also able to think ahead and realize that they may be doing shit right now but years down the road they will be way better then all the people who lack the brain power to either realize this truth and focus their energies internally, or to add the most mundane angle to a basic step. These people are just misguided. Maybe I am just more creative then others, but I dont think any of these people (majority of "bboys" these days) ever make an effort their entire lives to create. Then there are the people who not only lack the confidence or foresight to make up new moves, but they apparently don't consider themselves a real person either. They roll into a jam wearing the tall beanie, baggy shirt with old english writing of their crew, dickies pants and puma suede's. After they are done studying which way some guy from Miami's toe is pointing when he is halfway through a pivot, they go out and practice it. When they do it, they are imagining the video they saw as the spin around. "Not bad" they say. Now they get up and are about to try it again, looking around at the dilapidated gymnasium in eastern europe, they strain to feign imagine their childhood in puerto rico, the lush beaches, the palm trees, now they are ready to try again. That is someone really biting. They arent using their heart, they are trying to use someone elses. Even if you are a hack and can't come up with your own shit, your still a unique individual and its said that no 2 human movements are exactly alike. You can still put your own heart behind that step. But some people don't do that. Prediction: as breaking becomes more popular, you will see this becoming a bigger problem. The lepers of society tend to go with what's popular. Before, if you started breaking it meant that you somehow found it, now breaking is going to reach itself out to all kinds of people that weren't meant to do it. ok but back to the topic... to make a long story short, I think you should bite a lot of shit you see on youtube but give props to where you saw it. And then over time you should keep flipping things until you when yourself off of that shit you took. But you have to make the effort, its 2 totally different games - watching videos, and inspiring yourself, just never forget that all humans are born the same. |
