Are socks the devil? - 07-30-2008, 12:02 AM

Okay. I've heard many opinions. Is it wrong to break in your socks? I'm considerably faster with footwork as well as uprock; I just need to be able to slide a tiny bit for some reason. Whenever I try and break in shoes, my shoes squeak.

I'm trying to get more into battling, because I don't have that much experience and I'm planning to join this club at my high school called the EG Breakers. Anyway, will someone freak out if I show up in my socks or something?

Tip: Practice in your shoes. You'll get adjusted to the weight.

Meh.

It's really more the freaking sick dryness on the bottoms of my shoes. It's impossible to do any kind of footwork unless I just kinda hold myself up with my arms and kinda hover.

Yeah, and it's also better
since if you do it like, barefooted, then when you change the weight, you might throw yourself off.
Or something like that.
&it's safer too.

Having broken toes from breaking barefoot, I suggest you put shoes on when you practice.

Play the way you practice.

Exactly. Because its more difficult to do footwork in your shoes, that's why you need to do it. It's like when i see people at my practice practicing in track pants but who wears jeans 24/7 outside of practice. Why bother getting used to wearing track pants or wearing no shoes when you are gonna dance with jeans and shoes on 99% of the time when you're not at practice.

As far as sticky shoes, get some sandpaper. When i was starting and was having trouble with quick footwork in shoes, i sanded those badboys down til they were smooth.

Hey I'm guessing you're going to Elk Grove High School in Illinois? Small world if so. Are you an incoming Freshman?

Also as an answer to your problem 2 things. First, wear shoes, you're not going to go to an event in socks because your feet will get stepped on. WEAR SHOES! Second, if you're going to Elk Grove High School, where I currently go and am in the EG Breakers you need to wear shoes. The floor where we practice can be really slick with socks on. I've fallen a couple times while in socks. So moral of the story, WEAR SHOES!

i think its best to practice in shoes because whenever you perform or battle or anything you will most likely be in shoes so you should get used to the difference in weight and friction and stuff like that.

Running Shoes Are The best To Break in. The Ones That Are Like Socks. They Super light and they provide grip in the right places and slipperyness in the right places

Hmm...thanks for the advice. I guess I'll try that.
D:
Currently, my shoes are just these kinda heavy Airwalks, so I guess I'll sand the bastards down and maybe get quicker.

As for Smiley, yess...I shall be fresh meat material soon. Err...next year I'll be incoming. So I have what's left of this summer, next year, and the summer after to figure out how to break while not in my socks. I'll probably just ask my big bro. He just finished being a senior at EG. You know, Angel?

wear your shoes, learn your footwork the correct way, practice. you'll realize that a good grip in your shoes is actually good for footwork.
