The same thing it takes to achieve anything, dedication and time. Plus a bunch of other corny things
A bboy needs to understand music since after all it is a dance.

Word.

A bboy should also learn their knowledge about Hip Hop and the culture. Always give thanks to and remember the Originalz cause if it weren't for them, we wouldn't be here. It would also mean that you will have to really understand that you need foundation first before you go on to the powermoves.

Knowledge is key. Remember that.

Get your shit right before you try to correct others' shit.

Forever learning the beautiful art of Bboy.

I would say three words; passion, dedication, and commitment.

Don't forget tolerance for pain, big ballz, and patience.

Pain tolerance for pain when you accidentally hyperextending your thumb before going to the club (like I did on Saturday), still throwing down sets, and accidentally doing it again later (It still hurts like hell today but it was worth it).

Balls to throw down in a cypher even when you suck because you can't be an e-boy forever and rocking a circle is the best part of bboying.

And patience for when you fall on your head out of exhaustion practicing a 90 for the thousandth time. It's better to not get pissed when you can't get a move because if you get mad you'll end up either trying to throw it hard and hurt yourself, or giving up like a pussy.

The more you are mentally/physically strong and confident the less time you'll spend fighting yourself and the quicker you'll get better.

the last sentence of A-16 and the first sentence of Coolguy sum up what it takes to become a b-boy: knowledge and the will.

a b-boy's knowledge is more than just historical facts and the moves he employs. it is the understanding of who he is and where his identity begins to derive from. a fuller knowledge of b-boying and dance in general increases this understanding and arguably, without limit.

a b-boy's will is more than just wanting to be a good powerhead or a big name.
it is the force that seeks to know who you truly are. virtues like perseverance, dedication, and desire are all symptoms of a strong will.

here is a simple but purposeful analogy:
your will is like a seed in fertile soil which is b-boying. then knowledge is like the sunlight that makes it possible for you to use the nourishment that the soil offers. how can you effectively or at all become a plant (a better, stronger, more virtuous person) if you don't have the seed or the light?
