Interview by Style2ouf.com
Peace Physix, please introduce yourself to the audience. (name, age, crews)
What’s up people. I am Bboy Physix. My real name is HyoKeun Kim.
I represent Rivers Crew Korea. I’m 24 years old.
You’re reppin’ one of the most famour crews from Korea. Tell us about the history of Rivers Crew and
who’s actually reppin’ that crew.
Rivers Crew is one of the oldest crews in korea. It’s the 10th year anniversary of Rivers Crew this year . In the
beginning, Rivers Crew consisted only of Bboys. But with the time, B-Girls, Dj’s, Beatboxers and other people
involved in Hip Hop joined the crew and brought it to the next level.
The leader of the crew, Bboy Marine, discharged from the military service in 2002 and put together the squad
who’s recently reppin’ Rivers Crew. It was a tough time for him in all this years, but he paved the way for
the young generation of Rivers Crew.
When did you started bboying and who were your rolemodels back in the days?
I started breaking back in 1998. I watched a movie from the “people crew” and started dancing right away.
Later on i was influenced by the Radiotron tapes.
When you started bboying, did you ever think you would be able to travel the world and competiting in events and battles
all around the world?
When I started in 1998, I never thought I would be able to travel the world and competing in events all around the world .
I thought it was an impossible thing and i ahve never imagine this.
When did you decide to become a professional bboy? Did you still went to school or work besides bboying or did you
focused on breakin’ immediately after you started?
After graduating from school, i came to Seoul. There, i decided to do this bboy thing for a living. Bboying since then is
always the only thing i wanna do and it’s on my mind 24/7.
How is it like to be a bboy in a country known for his strict traditions and rules? Did you had support from your family and
friends?
Nowadays, the Hip-hop and bboying environment in Korea is getting better and better.
My family members and friends support me and they are proud of me.
But a few years ago, the situation was the exact opposite. My family and teachers like many other seniors worried about
me. They all told me to do something “real”, to get a real job to have something i can fall back on.
How do you see the scene in Korea? Do you think all bboys profit from the fact that Bboying is a big deal in commercials
and television?
The Bboy culture in Korea has grown extremely within the last few years. Compared to teh years before, yes, bboys
really profit from the situation these days. But i see some of them doing this only because of the money, and some of the
Bboys have lost the real spirit of Hip Hop and Bboying. When i see this, i always remind myself on how i started and that
i don’t wanna become such a person. But like in other countries, we have also a lot of Bboys who just dance
because they love it, and they dance just to enjoy it and for the fun of it.
Because of the fact that a lot of crews (Gamblers, Last4One, Rivers, Drifterz, Maximum Crew, etc.) are already going out
of country to perform or enter battles, do we know most of the crews in Korea (and do you think these are proberbly the
best crews in Korea) or is there a raw underground scene in Korea with dope ass bboys no one may have ever heard of?
If so, please drop us some names of the young and upcoming dancers/crews from Korea.

I would say MAX Crew because they really seem to enjoying bboying. Then we have Soulkings and Oshare
who’re enjoying themselves in cyphers. Besides, there are Jinjoo and TG Breakers, they are a new generation of
Bboys.
You’re also a member of the Project Soul crew who’s known for taking 1st place for example at UK
Champs. How did you get involved in that project and who’re the current members?
In 2002, Rivers wanted to join a preliminary contest for a Worldwide Bboy Battle. But unfortunately, not all members
could attend the event, so i was asked to join Project Korea. But Project Soul hasn’t got together since UK
Champs 2005, so i don’t know what’s up with the crew lately.
How did you liked the trips with those other guys? Did you know all of them before this project?
See, Korea is a small country. Korean bboys know each other mostly so through those trips and battles we saw
something new and we became very close and we had a strong faith of each other’s skill .
You’re still very young and you’ve been to many of the dopest bboy events in the world, what was your
favourite moment so far (in a battle or in general)?
Well, i am mostly just happy and satisfied when i dance. The dancing itself is my best impression. But if i had to choose a
certain moment, i would say it would be the last run i did in the tiebreaker of the finals of UK Championships.
How would you describe your style?
My Bboy style has changed a lot within the last years. I really hope I do true bboying and accomplished it.
How many times do you practice? Are you practicing only with the crew?
I’m practicing 3-4 hours everyday.
I really hope to master a lot of different movements and skills and I’m still feeling a lack of ability in myself. Most of
the times i practice with my crew members, but sometimes I go to other crews practices.
When you practice that much, how do you manage to keep in touch with family and friends?
My family and I have been living separately since I came to SEOUL. Therefore, we are not able to see us very often. But
I keep in touch with my family and friends frequently.
Now that you have to go to the army this year, how are your feelings about leaving the bboy game for a while? Is there
any chance you’ll be able to come out for some events even during your military service?
I will Stopp bboying only for one month straight. Because of my status, i’m not going to the army like a normal
person. So i can practice there. I just can’t attend any events or battles like i do now.
But it’s only for 2 years. I think my bboy life is more than that. Maybe this military service is a good chance for me.
And afterwards, what are your future projects?
I want to keep dancing. I want to work on my bboy style, i wanna keep improving and i want to dance longer then some
people may expect me to.
We wish you the best for the future and thanks for taking the time for the interview. Any last shout outs?
Yo! Thanks to Style2ouf for all the work and efforts for the Hip Hop and Bboy community thru all this years now.

This can't be the right one >.< it has so many errors...
