jam prep - 05-27-2008, 01:06 PM

sup peeps
just wondering, what do everyone do before heading out to a jam?
you guys all cram in a car and head out, taking turns driving? get plane tickets? buy a crap load of redbull or water?

i'm the only one that drives in my crew, so when we have to make a trip...man driving sucks alone. haha
we mapquest alot and make lots of pit stops and buy lots of water bottles.
had never taken a plane before, might take one to missouri...kinda scarey lol

how much money you guys bring? my crew barely made it home from one of the jams we attended because of money problems..and scams...

we only had to get a hotel once, the rest of the time we had places to stay thanks to some cool friends

hopefully this thread would give a good insight to those who are going to make some big trips to some places

on my first few trips to alot of big cities that are a far aways from home, man..i was nervous, i was 17 and everyone was younger than me, i was scared i wouldn't make it back home and i was cautious with being in trouble with the cops ahah, cause of the strict curfews.

peace

Usually we stop by the place I work, grab a bunch of drinks and some snacks, then fill up gas (everyone chips in like 5-10 bucks) and head out. Usually my friend drives, but I can too so thats not an issue.

We usually grab something to eat because jams last so long, and theres usually no food there. We bring enough money for more gas and food just incase we get lost or something, and if we get hungry. After the jam we go to denny's or perkins which are open for 24 hours so we can just relax and grab a bite to eat.

We havent taken any major road trips to jams like 3+ hours away yet, no plane tickets yet, but were working on getting better right now so that wont happen for a while anyway.

We had to stay in a hotel one time when we went to milwaukee but that was the only time.

Me and a bunch of cats drove to SF for Mighty 4 last year, man that was the longest 9 hours from SD to SF and back in my life. We stopped every so often for snacks and rest stops and all that, but it was really funny being all in the van together. Mad jokes I'll never forget. Thats whats dope about road trips!

I normally don't go too far for jams, usually 4 hrs tops, except when i was already going to California for a spring break trip I drove 19hrs for the Renegades 25th anniversary.

les seee... over in my part of the world, we usually fill up gas and get a few snacks and someone always brings some music for the trip. so far, its been me driving to the far away jams (hodown, bboy city, an OK jam... all atleast 3hrs away). we turn on the tunes, and pretty much hype eachother up for the first hour, then listen to the tunes until we are really really close. talk about whos gonna be there, what gear will be there, how we are too poor to try and buy the gear, but end up finding a way to get it haha.

so far, if we goto a jam thats outta town, we usually meet up with friends from the same areas as us who left at a different time than us. Like when we went to bboy city i had 3 from my crew (rhythmic rockerz) and 1 from Grounded for life (our extended fam pretty much). after the jam, we (RR and GFL) all chilled in some motel until like 2/3 am LOL. Next day we chilled at Cicis for an hour or two, then walked around downtown for a bit, ran into another crew we knew from houston, met up with sole power(another crew from where we were) at where the jam was, and just waited.... hahahahahaha. its always fun.

We usually pack our own food/drinks (although we'll pitch in for red bull if we're tired), one of us will bring a few CD's (enough to last the trip) and we'll listen to those on the way down to get hyped. We switch off driving since we have a small crew most of the time and we don't need a van or anything.

Personally, I pack a backpack w/ granola bars and a couple Gatorades to keep my energy up the whole night. I have a debit card, so I don't have to worry about carrying cash (now that i'm working full-time).

Just before we get there we'll call the guys we know are going to be there and figure out a spot to meet up, whether inside or outside the jam. Chill for a bit and then head over/get ready.

The farthest jam we've been to was an hour and a half away. My dad drives us. We're usually the first ones to arrive. We usually leave the jam around 8-9 pm, I've only gone through a whole jam once lol.
