Unhappy So YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE (makes me think.) - 05-26-2008, 11:19 PM

Not just think. I die a little whenever I see a bboy on that show. Because I believe that exposition on the show will do what the 1980s did to bboying. Popularize it, take away the talent, then nearly destroy it. Bboying should not be done for money, but for respect, as a way to take out your dangerous emotions, as a passion. Breakdancing, to me, is honestly the greatest dance ever. It takes the most perserverance, the hardest training, the most mentalility, the most originality, the most observation. One move that lasts about 2-3 seconds can take months to learn, not to mention making combos out of it. Dont get me started about creating difficult, original moves. (Lilous flares, hong 10's freezes, and others.)

anybody else have views like this, or opposing views. Discussion needed lol.

In my opinion, I believe people that are scared of exploiting bboying are being too cautious over it.. bboying aint goin nowhere, no matter what... it's still going to be the same art we love, whether it's underground or going mainstream... and even if the media throws it away after it has been exploited again, doesn't mean your opinion of this dance should change too... If you love it, stick with it, no matter what anyone says..

as for SYTYCD... the bboying is amazing, but I've seen better... I think the contemporary, Jazz, Ballet, and Ballroom dancing are top notch through my eyes.. but people who are into those dances prolly have seen better, also...

I THINK POPLOCKING IS THE BEST DANCE EVER!!!! OMGOMGOMG

I hope you know popping and locking is different from poplocking.

I don't think any dance is the best dance. I love locking. But that doesn't make it the best dance. Every dance needs dedication and creativity. Everyone has to work hard to get good. Some of us have just been doing it longer. If you're a dancer, you get respect from me.

Bboying does have the hardest moves to learn. You can't say the same for locking. You can learn locking moves in a few weeks, or even days. Whether you can dance with locking moves is a different thing, as I'm realizing. Therefore I wouldn't say that bboying is harder to learn than any other dance. The moves are harder is all.

So in my opinion: Dance is dance.

And exposing bboying creates public awareness. Imagine your daddy saying "hey that kids got a very crappy tombstones, but if he had combod that to a 1 handed airflare instead of flares, it woulda been awesome. You should learn that ".

Just like your dad shouting moves of xgames b4 the comentatory hits.

but then again dancing with those hard moves in bboying makes it even more difficult

although you may enjoy bboying the most, i find it a bit naive to say it is the best style out there. dancers in other styles have just as much talent, dedication, and technique as us bboys and it is difficult to evaluate eachother on the same platform. some qualities needed for bboying may not be present for ballroom, and vice versa so its impossible to determine which is the superior.

I feel you man, but you gotta think....

The famous bboys basically devote their life to bboying, they HAVE to make money out of it to survive. They can't just be putting countless hours of practice in just for the love they have for dancing. They do it both for the love, but they have to earn some money out of it to live.

Now you may say, that they can get a job, but how is a bboy supposed to devote their life to bboying, and have a job that pays enough for their needs and wants? Realistically its hard surviving on your own without any support.

I respectfully disagree... you should respect other styles of dance just as much as you respect bboying. Don't put down other styles just because they are different. People dedicate their lives to those styles of dance too, theres nothing wrong with it.

i just like seeing other bboys on there. to me it shows that their going to stand out and show the world what bboying is and open up everyones mind outside of this new hip hop dancing age.

Oh and I hear that Slinky from this website made it on i live in utah so thats what the word is around here. he should be on the next episode

I'm stuck at this question, because I don't know how you dance using powermoves, so I won't attempt to answer it.

I hope this thread doesn't become one of those threads that talk about how lame krump is and how awesome bboy is. If you bboy and you think bboy is the best, obviously it's a biased opinion.

Best is a relative idea, that only applies to the person and object in view.

bboy has hard moves, but de details and technicallity of other dances are from the same difficulty level if you want to get good.
so I think every dance has it own difficulty and easyness.
