WTF My knees pop when I bend them -
05-24-2008, 06:27 AM
Is this normal? I'd like to know?
No pain or anything.. It just freaks me out lol... Maybe its cause I'm flexible... Does anyone else have this similarity to their knees? |

My knees also popped when I bent them. My problem was a deformity of the lateral meniscus in both of my knees. I though just had surgery on my left knee because of a bad tear and displacement of the miniscus behind my kneecap. while they were in there they straitened that out, so now only my right knee should pop lol.
If your knee is popping (like when you crack your fingers) it is a pocket of gas escaping from the joint in your knee. If it is more of a cracking sound then it is probably something catching something else momentarily then being released. I have this in my back from scar tissue that has developed catching on my vertibrate and causing a wet sort of cracking noise when I roll my shoulders. It may be a sign of something (in my case the deformity in my meniscus was catching) but there are so many reasons that your knees could pop or so many things that could be popping in your knee that its not even worth worrying about it. Next time you have a checkup (dont make any special appointment out of it) just ask your doc about it. Really the only things they could do to check for a problem is an MRI or a Scope, neither of which I would reccomend lol. So in conclusion I wouldn't worry about it lol |

APannone is right, it may be a pocket of gas just bursting in your synovial membrane but other causes may be degenerating cartilages between your knee and your femoral head, deformity of the knee cap or muscle tightness such as the tensor fasciae latae.
if there is pain, this is a bad sign and you should cnsult the doctor, but if there is no pain its not really a life and death situation, but it may be a sign of a degenerative knee joint pathology -- which is inevitable because constant flexion of the knee joint causes the cartilage to degenerate. |
