Taking Lessons? -
05-20-2008, 07:07 PM
Okay, so I just got into bboying, and I only know a few moves. The reason that I know any of these moves at all is because, unlike most bboys, I've been taking lessons.
No big thing, but this guy, a highschooler, has been coming to my house and been showing me a few moves and I've been paying him. Thing is, I'm just naturally terrible at learning unless someone is there to correct my mistakes. I've been trying to learn some other moves from videos and guides, and it's been really hard. None of the other bboys at my school take lessons, and their all hating on me and saying I'm not a real bboy or whatever. Does taking lessons in addition to learning from guides make me a poser? |

i personally don't think it makes you a poser. a lot of people take lessons, some can learn better. As long as you know what bboying is, why you bboy, and the history, i think your good.(edit: i didn't mean good as in skill wise you need to practice for that. i meant your not a poser)
As for them, haters are born ready to hate (as someone once cleverly said in another thread.) |

You could actually meet other new B-boys and practice with them together(If you're taking lessons). Try to challenge them by getting a move down before time. This will help you improve even faster. If you're bored, you might want to challenge them to a battle too. Lol, haha. Ignore what your friends said, do what suits you. And no, it doesn't make you a poser.

I'd like a teacher. ._.
But still, it takes away some feeling of accomplishment because I can't say I learned mostly on my own. It's nice having a bboying partner though, hopefully someone better than you or equal that can do stuff you can't (and vice versa) so you can help each other out. :] |

You need to be taught to get good. It doesn't have t be long lessons or anything, you could just ask better bboys than you how to do a move or twelve and there you go. If you learn on your own, you could be learning a move the wrong way, or not learning the proper techniques.

and if they make fun of you for learning off the internet-reccomend them to this site. if anything theyll see a bboy or ... all.... that can rape them every which way possible. then they will see what learning off the web can do
