80% of you guys probably won't read this because it's long. But whatever.

Yesterday, I saw a poster up on the wall for the THA (not the real name to protect identities) that was advertising the contest for Hall of the Year. At the end of this month, there is going to be an end of the year banquet and awards for the best residence halls (aka dorms).

Smack dab in the middle of the poster is some korean bboy doing an invert. Surrounding him are various colored waves of sorts. Under him, the words "Get Hyped Up" are typed.

It's a simple poster. But the assumptions made about it are clear as day. If you don't know what that means, I'll tell you what that means. It means that the bboying culture is being exploited again for means of media.

Some random average Joe is going to show up at the event looking to see some "breakdancing" when he is going to find none. It's both false advertising and misleading. The "Get Hyped Up" and the further absence of anything related to BBoying, or Hip Hop for that matter, implies that the artist has no idea about the BBoying culture and just thinks of it as 'cool' and knows people are interested in 'cool stuff'.

So I head down to the student offices today because they happen to be open for only one hour every day, and cause some ruckus. I talk to the THA and they told me they have no clue, then send me over to publicity. Then I had a long long talk with publicity and I had to work through some underlings before I got to meet the head honcho.

He knew how to do his job well because he was really good at appeasing people's worries. He said it wasn't the "artist's" (his version of poster designer) fault for choosing that sort of imagery and that it is the client's (the person that paid the designer) fault for choosing the wrong core parameters for the artist's rendition. Deep down, I knew that he was wrong.

I believed that it was BOTH the client's and designer's fault. The client for providing incorrect and unspecific parameters and the artist for providing a false rendition of those criteria. Yet, I pressed on seeking to find a point for my dagger. I just needed someone who I can yell at. I didn't want to get the runaround either because I was at the beginning of it.

He went over to talk to the THA so he could throw me somewhere else. I talked to the THA too and they are now trying to get me in touch with the client. Possible solutions are redesigning the posters or taking them down totally because the event hasn't happened yet.

ranting about anything is a particularly satisfying experience, doing it about something your passionate about only compounds the pleasure. did you have a nerdgasm after?

mad props. atleast someone had enough bravery to rise against people who uses bboying to make their events more popular without knowing - what's bboying. about schools = here , most students from age of 15 are posers or ''Gangasta'' and all they do is muthrfckn cwalk and tektonic. They even say bboying is old as heel and we should start to practice cwalk and that kinda shit. to hell with them , we must protect culture our explain people whats the meaning of it. PEACE.

except your method of "solving" the problem only gives bboys a bad name. now theyre gonna think we're elitists stamping trademarks and copyrights all over things breaking-related.
"dude there's this one breakdancer at our school, oh my god... there was a poster with a breakdancer on it to get people's attention and then that guy went and frickin filed a complaint about that! those breakdancers, man..."
