organising a battle... - 05-14-2008, 07:11 AM

so I'm organising a battle in my town, I've got most of it covered what I need to do like:
mc, jury, location, date, sponsors, prices, water for bboys, ...

but I'm always afraid I'll miss something, so if there are some things I should pay attention on or things that are easely forgotten, tell me :>

bottom line: I want your advice, experience, suggestions, thoughts about this.

about the battle:
it's first time in this city,
date:6 september

1 vs 1amateurs
1 vs 1 pro's
3 vs 3

I've got already 2 judges that are one of the best powermovers in Belgium(so I'll need a style bboy to complete the jury)

and you can always come to battle or socialize of course.

Yeah, keep receipts + invoices, etc, every time you pay someone + buy something just so you can keep track of what you've made.

Aside from that, good luck!

hmm I dont think you should separate the 'amateurs' from the 'pros', cause it'll be hard to determine whether someone's a pro or an amateur , just make it a 1 on 1 for everyone.

and don't forget to promote the shit out of it, a jam is nothing without the people, so try getting in some big names over there so more people will come

-> I'm gonna make a document specially for the money part.
-> I know most of bboys in Belgium(small country) so it's mostly to let the new bboys get some confidence and getting used to battling without getting smoked

-> I'm posting it on dutch bboy forum, rawmaterialforum and a friend's gonna post it on rafagaforum. so whole Belgium will know where to go to.

tnx for the advice

lol I was just thinking about that. But I'm sure he knows already. That's common sense to get a DJ for the battles. Unless he's a superduper beatboxer.

Rather than calling the battles amateur and pro, it'd be best to have a newbie battle and a battle for everyone else. That way it doesn't sound intimidating or have people asking "do i fit in as a pro or amateur?" etc

^good advice

and dj? what's a dj? and why do I need music? I'm gonna wait for my dj till I've got my sponsors, so if I can get a good sponsor I can get a good dj, good price equals good bboys and a lot of crowd.

so it all depents on the budget I can work with.

question for the dutch/german/french(or others): what would be the reason to come to my battle?(maybe I can make it happen )

First and foremost, you WILL lose money. It's pretty much a gaurantee. Everyone does on their first (or first dozen) jams. Important thing is that you don't get discouraged.

DJ is the most important part of a jam...if your music sucks, your jam sucks. No argument. No amount of popular judges or prize money can make up for bad music.

as far as the newbie vs pro give prize money for pro give no or little prize for newbie no respectable bboy in the scene would purposly enter a beginner tournament if they know there good and theyll want a chance at the prize money

I'm hoping on not losing to much money, I've got the room cheap and cause of some politics I have the jury cheap too. so the most costs go to advertizing and dj + material.

or am I missing some huge things?(water for bboys is cheap)
