Dang.

I saw this movie yesterday with my girl... I freaking LOVED it. I swear. I agree with Madd.. ending, the whole movie was MAD inspiring. Following each bboy from different countries and seeing their struggle.. it just showed what they really faced and how important bboying is to them.

planet bboy was great, i had to see it twice. the movie critic's opinion is his and his OWN opinion and quite frankly i don't give a fuck about his opinion. it doesnt affect me and never will.

although planet bboy was a good movie, i felt the freshest kids was a better bboy documentry. more on the history of bboy and hip hop and that movie made me more wanna just break out after watching it.

I'm not sure if I'm feeding the flame by reposting it. But yeah. Anyways. Here you go.

March 21, 2008 -- THE break-dancing documen tary "Planet B-Boy" proves that what might be (but probably isn't) worth five minutes of your time while you're passing through the Times Square subway station really isn't worth a 11/2-hour movie.

The movie is an exaltation of banality that follows b-boys, or break dancers working in teams, from Korea, Japan, France and Las Vegas through something called the (2005) "Battle of the Year," a contest in Germany so renowned that its total prize money for all winners is $3,000.

The dancers, about whom we learn little, share with us their deeply vague insights. In the case of the foreigners, these may not have been much to begin with; in translation, though, they sound like toddlers' musings: "I started to become more aware of my identity and other ways of thinking "It was a tough year for us all. We argued the most within our team that year just because we wanted to win "We're gonna show what the dance is all about "I want to have a great time dancing while expecting to win."

Meanwhile, we watch a stupefying series of scenes of young men jumping around and spinning on their skulls in an effort to become tomorrow's semi-visible backup dancers in music videos. At 95 minutes, "Planet B-Boy" seemed longer than "The Godfather: Part II."

Hopefully I'll be able to watch Planet B-boy. The closest place to me that will have Planet B-boy is Portland.. I'll probably go Friday.

Sounds like an awesome documentary though.

Thanks a lot Avu!
And I feel like that guy is so inactive and fat that he is jealous of a 80 year old woman walking around cos he can't walk...
In other words, he is a hiphop hater...

Whats up guys. I'm the director of Planet B-boy and I ended up in this forum through an unusual path. I basically have my google alert set to notify me on anything Planet B-boy related. Of course I had read Kyle Smith's review of my film and thought "fine, he didn't like my film. I can't please everyone." No biggie. Then I got this alert that led me to his blog where he had somehow read this thread on bboy.org and this was his response:

Hate Mail of the Week: “Elitist S***Head”

I had pretty much already forgotten the break-dancin’ documentary “Planet B-Boy,” about a bunch of Korean and Japanese gangsta group dancers competing for a prize of approximately $12.95. (See my review here.) It’s climbed the charts all the way to a US gross of $191,000. But I see a website affiliated with the movie is loaded for bear, with correspondents calling me “an elitist s***head” and so forth. (”I’mma hire a hitman” says one semiliterate would-be tough guy, no doubt spinning around on his little skull as we speak, though I have not gotten even one e-mail or letter relating to this vanishingly obscure film-like piece of work.)

The comments are funnier than anything I wrote, so check ‘em out. B-Boys: it’s on, yo! Come and sho yo mad skillz in front of my crib. I’ll be sure to ignore you the same way I do the dancers impressing tourists in the Times Square subway square or the fellows at Columbus Circle.
END

Okay. So this guys actually an asshole rather than a real journalist with an hint of racist in him. The mere fact that he equates the box office numbers with the quality of my film makes me realize that he should be reviewing for ET. Then again, he does write for the Post....

Anyway, its on.....

Ahhh Benson Lee!?

Anyways, we shouldn't take that guy seriously. It's not like he writes for the NEW YORK TIMES or NEW YORKER. He writes for a freakin' tabloid, HA!

Disagree, but don't disrespect.

Don't you guys get it, without his bitterness towards everything good in life, he has nothing.

Or perhaps he's just an ass, like Stinkmeaner from The Boondocks. In that case, I believe a swift and painless death will benefit him the most (and the rest of the world as well). And by that I mean death by repeated airflares to the face.

So here is my resposne:
1)Do some research. I bet you listen to that mainstream hip-hop, huh?
2) You are a (Real (Real, as in real hip-hop, not mainstream hip-hop)) Hip-Hop hater. Get shot.
3)Lololololol....see, you are one of those guys that just don't give a shit about anything. Before commenting on something you don't know shit off, do some research. Else don't.
4)Why waste time for that? Why are you wasteing time looking over the internet to see this thread? Get a life.

Agreed, but this is the type of guy that epitomizes the ignorance that people have of hip-hop, and the fact that he's a so called "critic" makes me angry because you would think that a person in his position would try to at least make some sort of attempt to conceal his stereotypes....then again, it is the Post...
