What is with this country d-riding?! (Rant) -
03-23-2008, 10:09 AM
Alright peeps, I have to get this off my chest because it's been bugging the hell out of me. Often I'm trying to find the latest bboy video's on youtube. But nowadays, if I see a video that is two different countries battling, I'm hesitant to click on it. Because what usually happens is there is hundreds to thousand of comments dedicated towards people putting down an individual just because they are from a different country. This is some of the common crap I see.
Koreans: We own bboyin, nobody can hang with us. Americans: Korean bboy's don't have style, they only powermoves. Europe: LILOU!!!!! (Enough said...) Sometimes it drives me nuts. No offense, but this is especially evident in many koreans. It's like many of these people who "claim" to be a bboy, only bboy because Korea is good at it? WTF?!!!! I like Anime, I"m not going to wait until an American decides to draw Anime before I like it. If you like bboy, like it because you can express yourself, or impress others. If your bboy because you believe your country is the best at it, than your definitely bboyin for the wrong reasons. And don't let me get on the d-riders, OMG. Once again, this is most strongest in korean bboys but it is also evident in europe and america. Some Koreans bboys will only watch video's, comment, whatever, if there is a korean bboy involve. Many of these bboys only like individuals because of their nationality. WTF?! You shouldn't just like a person just because he's korean, you should like them because of their style or something they have that you like. My favorites are from all over the world. America: Bboy Machine, Bboy Morris, Bboy Roxrite, Bboy Twixx Europe: Bboy Brahim, Bboy Lilou, Bboy Menno, Bboy Junior Korea: Bboy Hong 10, Bboy Born, Bboy Rush, Japan: Bboy Taisuke. Not only that, but I respect bboy's from across the globe. Cause they are out there doing their thing. What's even worse is when a d-rider see's their "god" lose in a battle, omg. Prime example is the Physicz vs Lilou battle in Boty 2005. Physicz definitely lost because he was outdanced, but you still see the d-riders pulling the d from our of their mouth to say. "Well now, Physicz would destroy Lilou, oh Physicz landed his signature elbow 1990, he should have won." WTF?! Give Lilou some credit, he won the entire competition for christ sake. It's not just that though, go to about any video where either gamblerz, drifters, hong 10, many other korean bboy loses, and see the flood of comments about how they are cheated, or they should have won, or their opponent suck, or the judges is rigged. It's ridiculous. Many korean bboy's need to understand that even though they are from korea, we are all united under the same banner of bboyin. So respect bboy's from all across the globe, that's my last statement. My rant is done.[ |

i agree with you on some points. but others i have to disagree with
i disagree with the fact that people dick ride there own country. cause here in america i see a lot of people dick riding koreans. most friends i know never knew most of the american bboys till i introduced them to it. the only words that came out of there mouths were "extreme crew, gamblers, etc". i dont know if its cause majority of these people are asian. but i've seen this on bboy.org a lot. this usually happens when people are still new to the scene. they search up the word "breakdancing" or "bboy" and what do they see? they see either "Crazy black breakdancer!" (junior) or "crazy asian breakdancers!" (extreme crew). its mainly cause a lot of korean crews have gained a lot of popularity into our side of the world. people dick ride them a lot cause its all they see. expose them to the real culture of bboying and they'll change their minds. |

LOL, it wouldn't bug me if half of these cats didn't have a bboy something next to their name. I'm like, this guy doesn't even know what bboy is about? What's worse is these folks give bboyin a bad name. I don't mind it that much when those comments come from so-yeon from seoul, I do mind it when it comes from bboy lilou brownnose from sacremento.

LOL, well I can't say much because I don't have any videos LOL! I don't have a web cam, but I practice almost every day. So because of that, I can't really put that on others like you can LOL! But regarding country wise, you bring up an interesting point that goes to a rather deeper issue. As you stated, most of these cats that you mention in the states are Asian. This goes into to the topic Asian power so to speak. That's why, many of these video's have the comment Asian power in it. They relate to korea because they are Asian as well. So while it may not have to do with the country, but it does relate with race. The psyche "Well I may be chinese, and they are korean, but we are asian so I'll d-ride on them." Now of course, there is nothing wrong with having a preference. Some individuals feel more comfortable or have that connectivity through race. While I'm not like that, it's fine if others are. So if it was just these folks cheering for only koreans than it wouldn't be as bad. Still bad, but not as bad. But when you downplay others because they aren't from the same country as the one you like, or even worse say a top contender bboy sucks when they themselves can't do 95% of what the "sucky bboy" can, than it gets ridiculous. Because right than and there, you can learn about other bboys. While I'm not a big powerbboy fan, after seeing the end vs roxrite I checked up on the end. Yet these cats got tunnel vision, I swear. If they aren't from korea, they don't want to hear nothing about it. |

Yeah I kind of hate it when some Korean people start saying they're the best at bboying.

Wow, never heard the can't break cause your white talk anymore. Guess it still exists. Which is shocking because there is so many top pier bboy's that are white, I thought it would dismiss the myth already. Stylist go up against a powerhead is a little different for me. Power of course is a necessary part of bboyin. It's part of the complete package. But the problem lies with top tier bboy's who are powerheads that does no toprock and no footwork, just straight powermoves. As they have stated everywhere, if you don't top rock, and you have no footwork, your not a bboy. So the problem lies that many powerheads don't really dance but do gymnastics. I mean, an excellent example of a person who transition from a gymanstic to a true bboy is physicz. Before, the only thing he cared about was elbow 1990's and hollowbacks. The Lilou vs Physicz battle is an excellent example. Physicz displayed horrible toprock and like 1.5% footwork. Now look at him, this cat has improved drastically, neither his toprock nor his footwork are laughable anymore, he transition himself into a full edge bboy. So he shows that you can still be a powerhead, and still do toprock and footwork, which is essential to bboy. |

maaaaaaann thank you! this shit been buggin' me for ages! but the thing is this yo, most the people who are Korea fanboys aren't even asian!!! shits retarded. they be all like "Korea the best" and "USA sucks, go Korea" and some bullshit. don't get it twisted though I'm a fan of Korea and i respect their scene, but Korea's fans making Korea look bad! I think Hong 10 kinda hinted around that in a Bboyworld interview. There's this one Youtuber in particular named "Thoraii" i swear if i ever meet that d*ck rider in person, ima smack the hell outta him!
but nah it's sad cuz Youtubers seem to always flock to the "famous" RedBull Bc one b-boys. They be havin like 1 million views and shit. then you go to a video of lets say Bboy Ynot, Kevo, Kid David, or even Bebo, no one ever watches their videos (well until you seem them in RedBull i guess haha), let alone most them fools probably don't even know who they are. it's sad because those people will love another country's scene and then hate on their own scene... lol sorry for writing a whole book but damn just like babybro, this shit been botherin me too. |

i've been actively a part of this dance since 1982 and i did not become a "bboy" until the early 1990's. in the 80's i didn't even know what a bboy was. i was a "break dancer" then. when the movie beat street came out i thought the new york city breakers were the best because the movie focused on them and that's all i had to go on. then shortly after i thought the rocksteady crew were the best soley off the names of crazy legs and prince ken swift. in the late 80's and early 90's i thought that you have to be in cali to be with the best. in the late 90's i thought the best were in texas. ignorance is bliss homey. time will weed out ignorance only if we take the time to learn. |
