Your ambition to battle. -

So I know battles are important in bboying, as in Mcing, Scratchin, Graff, etc. but how important is it to you? And would you just battle anyone know matter how new they are?
For example. Through experience, after a battle I realize what I really need to work on, especially when it was my first. The bboys that have been dancing for about 6month+ including me have inspired others to start this dance at school. We teach basic moves, that it's not just spinning on your head, etc. and explained that you learn a lot during a battle. We give them the urge to battle another beginner just to try it out, nothing serious, just another session really. They enjoyed it and really noticed what they need to work on after realized they did the same stuff every turn. Personally, I really do enjoy battles and so does another friend of mine but as much he loves to battle, he always sets up like a 3v3 battle, experience bboys against the beginners. We don't always do them because I feel that I'm not going to learn much if I battle somebody where I don't have to give all I got. Maybe he just likes to win? Is your ambition to battle high enough to even battle newbies? |

what kind of thread is this?
its no big deal, if you're battling a newb or not. if you're at a jam most new ppl never even battle, they just stand around... and you're still newbish if you're 6 months..you can't even call yourself experienced if you've been dancing that long. this shit takes YEARS i even think i'm a newb and i've been dancing for 2+ years. |

for the most part, the battle experience is basically a rite of passage and fertilizer for your growth as a bboy. you aren't in it to win it (yet) but battling is a part of foundation so you gotta pay your dues. you should learn a lot from it.
as for more developed heads...philosophies, goals, and ambitions change as you get older or develop so there's nothing general you can really say about everyone else. they are well enough formed in their foundation to be choosing their own paths. they've been through the battles and hard work and they know what real bboying is about and what it is for them. this isn't to say that anyone is ever above foundation. only that there comes a time when bboys are responsible for their own decisions based on their experience, reflection, and knowledge. it's not like a noob who only knows a good six step/air flare and says "yo i'm gonna do shows from now on". |
