Lack Of Inspiration - 03-22-2008, 09:28 PM

Lately I haven’t been able to break because I just couldn’t get in to it. I would go to a session all ready to break, trough down a couple sets and just stop cus I can’t think of anything new cus I’m not inspired. I’ve tried watching videos and stuff tried dancing to new songs, but I’m just no feeling it, I would go to jams but the only one coming up is the b-boy unit Canada prelims witch is friggin 19+ and schoolwork has been getting me down. man, I need some serious help. Can any one help think of ways to get inspired, how do YOU get inspired?

I get inspired by dancing to the music. How funny is that?

i have this problem a lot too, the times ive managed to pick myself up are just going at a move as hard as i can physically and mentally go

dont matter wat move(s)
just go as hard as u can to the best song u can find and do random hard roll backs n slides n shit
go crazy!

Eternally searching
Never finding
Sanctuary of defilement
Destructively bound
One step forward
Ten steps back
Before the threshold of life
Awaiting the embrace of renewal

some tricks that help me

1. role playing think in your mind how you would answer to one of your friends sets be Inspired by how your gonna make him feel when you murder him at what hes good at.

2. routines: ot really routines but play a semi difficult song like hot pants im coming or inner life you got me dancing and see how many differnt ways you can hit the doulbe horn in hot pants or the triples in inner life, basically see how nice you can dance to a specific song.

3. for footwork and tops interchange them try to make a foot work version of your toprock tech etc 7-10 are gonna look stupid but the other 3 are gonna be pretty unique

4. !!!MOST IMPORTANT!!! do what you enjoy if you set out to practice power today but your not feeling the power do some style or freezes or what eva you like till you feel good again then try powa again if you still dont feel it fuck it do what you want your in this to enjoy yourself primarily dont forget that

go back to foundation: hitting basic beats, sharpening your form, cleaning up your steps, training for new moves, etc. for most at the novice levels, dedication is more important than inspiration.

I got inspiration from music. When I get bored, or can't think of anything new, I go look up new music. I use Napster for music, and one function that helps alot is the "automix" button. Basically what that does is I select a song, then click automix, and it pulls up a bunch of "similar" songs and makes a playlist. This way I can get new songs that I would have never heard of otherwise.

Other ways would be finding songs on bboying videos, or where ever else you might find songs and just listen to them.

Once I find a new song I really like, I'll sit here and listen to it. Usually I close my eyes, and listen to the beat and visualise what that beat makes me want to do. For instance, my top rock to The Mexican would look totally different than to something like Ultramagnetic MCs. Eventually my mind just gets totally into the music. Depending on my mood it could take 5 minutes, could take a half hour, but I just get into it, and suddenly find I have to get up and try something new I just thought up.

I'll do that with songs until I just dry up creatively on that song, and then I go find a new song.
