yeah, like oldschool breaking style, IMO oldschool style might mean simple/cleaner looking tops and footwork with a more uprocky looking flavour. I dunno whenver i watch old bboy videos the only difference is there tops look so 80's lol and the sets are much simpler then some of the sets you might see in things like Hong10's stuff.

i'm focusing on that too. oldschool bboys have flava man. it's not only style only, they also coordinate with the music. a lot of oldschool bboys will mention hitting the beats, dancing to the music, and combination with style/flava. lots of them end in a chair freeze or a bridge with one leg on top of the other. that's what i'm gonna try to master in bboying right now.
Examples Toprock > Footwork > Swipes > Backspin > Chairfreeze Toprock > Footwork > Windmills/Flares > Bridge |

Also Lockin and Boogaloo are considered oldskool as well. I believe all bboys starting out should learn the oldskool first.
1. It usually is among the easiest of steps. I mean who is gonna start out doing airflares to halo combos? 2. It gives the beginner an appreciation of where bboyin came from and by learning those steps first they get a ..lack of better phrase.. 'hands on lesson of bboyin history' 3. ..and to me probably the most important..it helps them develope their own style....because later when they are concentrating on trying to get them buddha mills/halos/air traxx/1990's...they will already have developed a bit of style and will be able to incorporate it as they get better into making and creating their combinations for battle. The funny thing is in my perspective growing up with 'oldskool' moves..it was always new and fresh stuff coming out/being thought up/ and shared with each other. |

Learning locking and boogaloo aren't necessary for bboying. Those are different dances.
