What YOU have learned from B-boying? -
03-05-2008, 11:37 PM
I wanna know what you learned through this amazing dance we all do (Pretty sure right?). What I'm talkin bout is like...
Examples: More open minded toward ____ or if it has influenced your thoughts and how so. Has it taught you about hardwork? Respect? Tell us. |

oh man, that's deep. I've never really thought about that, but I just dance because, um, I love breaking. Oh, well, I guess if you're doing for show, its different than doing it because you have a passion for it.... I'm not really sure what the question is...

I guess it's pretty deep isn't it? Haha well like if it has really changed anything from deep down, your personality, or it could be anything really that you are appreciative of anything you've learned ever since you've started!
Just give yourself some time to think. ![]() |

However, corny it sounds.
If you want something, you'll get it if you try hard and you do it long enough. Also, Impossible is nothing. |

I think it's opened my mind up to dance. I've never really liked dance or any style of dance but this gives me the chance to express myself which I've never really done. It's also made me appreciate a broader range of music.

it taught me to appreciate hip-hop and i learned how to recognize beats and dance to them, i also learned that u cant just say u cant do that move unless u try for example i had when i started i had a fear of doing babies but since when i actially tried and got it rite i've lost my fear of falling on my head also there is nothing more rewarding then hitting every beat, and nailing that move you worked months to perfect

it helped find who i was and what i am.
if life was planned out, then this is my calling. bboying helped me channel my anger, fears, happiness, any kind of emotion and make me lose myself in the music, the circle, the floor and i love it. peace, couldn't explain it any other way |

It has taught me a lot...
- I never thought when I started that I would ever be able to windmill. As soon as I had windmills down, my attitude changed to "Well what else can I do?" and I believe with enough work I could do anything. - Taught me hard work definately, but to a point I knew that already from playing football and hockey... However in those sports I had a coach to push me... In bboying I have to push myself.. - Taught me to be a lot more mentally tough.. battles and moves that get on your nerves and stuff like that really push you mentally... - Taught me about uniqueness... For instance.. way back in the day when I joined this site, it was a little different around here... Not a lot of people are left from then.. the only ones I think are left are Chucky, Lobz, Vice President, and Zeshen... I used to always talk to Lobz about his style.. because quite frankly, I didn't like it at all... But as I progressed I learn that making shit up is hard, and learned to respect how unique he was... and look at him now.. he is a dope bboy.. - It taught me more about hip hop and the culture... Before bboying I never hip hop was such a kind, friendly scene.. A lot of people are willing to help new people for free and that's rad because it takes up there time and practise... There's probably more but ya, i'm rambling lol. |

I appreciate dance as a whole and not just supporting bboying alone. I also appreciate all kinds of other music as well.

After being involved with bboying and hiphop for a couple years now, the biggest thing that it has changed for me because of them is I'm alot more socially aware of things. I pay attention to politics more, and I also became a more philosophical person. I applied those ways of thinking to the real world and it made things alot more clear to me. It also made me good at debating topics, and standing up for things I believe in. Not sure whether or not that relates to what you're trying to ask in this thread. But what about you, what have YOU learned? |

Well I can say as a first that it seems we all have a somewhat relation between from what we learned.(Including myself) It has taught me along with the more underground hip hop culture about the importance of positivity and how we all should respect those around us. Also more socially aware like you said. Everything in front of us are just obstacles and only this dance has opened a door of possibilities showing that those obstacles aren't as solid as we think they are, only if we just tried our honest best and they will appear just so possible to the once impossible. I've become much more aware of stereotypical comments and behavior as I'm sure you guys have experienced. In basically in all aspects from musicality to other cultures along with ours, I've gained a more open mind toward them even if some not as much as others. I'll be in all out honest truth that I would still count myself as a noob in this, but I've grasped, even if a little, some of this, and I know only more good could come from this dance/culture. |
