Thumbs up Publishing a Hip Hop Magazine - 03-05-2008, 01:09 AM

I'm the starting phases of putting together a Hip Hop magazine that will be distributed for free in the Henderson & Las Vegas area- but I'm still gathering information for the content. But I need the voice of the Hip Hop community in a whole of what you look for in a hip hop magazine. What information do you want to read about when you grab a magazine at your local stops. Surely everyone is tired of the commerical and non sense that alot of publications put out. So what do the b boys and b girls, you graf artist, emcess, and deejays want to see when you pick one up? And what are some magazines that have the content that you want?

Interviews with famous b-boys and their outlook on breaking and a glimpse of what a day for them is like. Same thing for other artists.

Simple tips like you see in those golf and tennis magazines that teach you ways to improve form or instruct you on how to do a breaking move.

Ranking chart of some of the more popular beats.

Gear buying guide. Like good breaking shoes or cameras. Home made stuff too.

Review of websites with good hip hop oriented content.

List of good session spots.

Since it's free, make it a pdf so people can download it from a website.

Just throwing some stuff out there.

Word.thanks for the feedback. I really want to get this off the ground and do it the right way. Putting the realness and truth back in the name of hip hop. Focusing on the positive things that started it all. Doing interviews with up and coming crews, Worldwide figures in the industry. Dope info and tutorial tips. true creative fashion and links to hot gear. Of course plenty of promotions and advertisements for companies and upcoming events. I'm pulling resources from all over the net. I would really like to network with cats who want to help me put this out. Writers, photographers, instructors. And this would be an opp for those of you who want to promote your own stuff to get a worldwide distribution for no charge. I'm doing this for the love. This is my way of helping to save the culture- And everyone here plays their part of saving it as well.

well, for the graff writers, you can have like a weekly/monthly section of the best mural or murals of the week or month, idk how often ur zine is gonna come out, and maybe get the logo in some graffiti font or let some writer do it for u, and maybe change it every once in a while, also just an idea, what if you seperate the magazine like in 4 sections, one of bboying, one for graff, one for rappers and another one for djs, maybe rappers and djs could be together, and you can talk about stuff related to them, like interview, photos, battles, etc.

You can always do something like the Battle of the Month. Where it shows the sickest battle that happened that month. Or a Bboy of the Month where you highlight one bboy for a month.

Alright then. Starting to get some good feedback. But I'll be looking for more for sho. it's gonna take awhile to get this off the ground so any help from those who really wanna be apart of this- just let me know what you can offer and we will see what can get done. I like the idea of changing it up on the graffiti each new mag. Not sure when we will be putting it out. My business plan is still in development. I wanted to do it for the love so there is no market for it planned at this time. And there are alot of other things that will be going into play as far as publication and availability that still needs to come into play. My goal is to educate and update the hip hop community and those who have been mislead of what hip hop is. It has to be from the gut! The people who wake up each day digging for hip hop. That's why I'm asking you for the feedback. So thanks in advance for the love and the networking. Keep em coming. This thing can be da new hottness!! It won't be just about the bboying or the funk styles only. It will be all about the hip hop community. Where it came from, what it's doing in the present, and where we need to take it for the future.

You could also write a section on the history of hip hop.

Or just get people to watch The Freshest Kids because it's pretty hard to sum up the entire history of hip-hop seeing it developed across the USA simultaneously almost, and then spread to other countries.

Some people are like slinkies. Utterly useless, but rather entertaining to watch when pushed down a flight of stairs.

I mean- there will be alot of content. And for me locally, I won't be able to speak alot about the hip hop scene here. But in places like LA, NYC and all points in between there will a moutain of information out there. I like the ideas of highlighting the bboy battles being covered. Educating people on not so much the history of hip hop, but opening a window for them to see the real side of hip hop & allowing them to review the history for themselves. I could use help gathering photos from events, graf art from the USA and around the world. Online interviews from crews as well as the leaders of the culture. I'll need a team and crew of people to help submit the work. Locally I can get a handle of the mini mag itself because I've got advertisement from my end to distribute it here. And putting it in PDF form so cats can download it will be available as well. So far all I have on the name of it will be Savage Artz, but I'm looking for something that will be more of a universal concept, it will just be distributed under the Savage Artz Publication name. But having graf artist hooking up a new look everytime will be oh so sick. Again-- many blessings and thanks to you all.

I'd be willing to help to. Though my age might be a bit of a down side I'd still want to do what I can.

But I think a little history section would be a good idea. So that people can read up. Not like a whole page or whatever. Maybe just a fact or two of the month, so that people can still learn without knowing they learned.

Suck it.

there was a sign that said "do not mix" and i thought of mixedwell - bboychop.
