stretch a lot. i do leg swings at the end of my stretching session to simulate the swings from power. also, you should get on the floor and grab your feet so your legs are split. then rotate your legs around so you can simulate the movement of your legs going up and down and side to side. when you are actually powering, perhaps you could start with some lighter power such as windmills. then, you can go to flares which you need more split for. also, dont forget to keep stretching during your session- your muscles can tighten up while you arent doing anything

i wish i could do head spins -B-BoyKT

Whenever you practice power moves you can't really half-ass them. You have to put your full effort into them or else you won't get them. And its all about the timing.

One thing I make sure of is to not only stretch the obvious muscles, (e.g if practicing mills, obvious muscles would be in the legs), but give the entire body a general stretch... I know it sounds weird, but simple yoga stretches work quite well... Pretty much any physical exercise (assuming it's structured exercise) will work.

Another thing is to pay attention to, is the mind. If you are stressed, or your mind is somewhere else... Chances are you won't be as successful. Trying to learn new techniques requires more thought processing than you'd think. What I always do is repeatedly watch video clips of someone doing the move really well. I try to set that image and only that image in my head.

After that I just kind of shake around like and idiot to get loosened up. This is an extremely popular warm up technique for people in competitions and such. It's quite effective in relieving tension and anxiety before performing/trying something new.

just yawn. when u yawn, not many people know it but ur using and stretching over 100 muscles in the face and head. The same goes for just a simple smile. It requires a lot of muscle to smile but since we do it daily, we dont notice it. but it's the truth, yawn and bite down on ur teeth to work on ur temples. it actually helps as silly as it sound (i do it)
