I kinda agree with Pyro... I don't think that the status of bboying is determined by what movies are out... Breaking never went anywhere, it's just underground and we are the ones keeping it alive and strong as ever.

As stated in the documentary Bboying never died, it just died in business.
It should stay that way I hate it when movies and shit like that come out trying to show breakdancing in the way media sees it. From the undergrounds it rises only to express dance as itself. |

Dance to express, not to impress.

It's nice to see it beggining to get some recognition again though, because although people are willing to sacrifice anything for this dance, wouldn't it be nicer if they could dance AND live comfortably?

YO WHAT THE FUCK
YALL ARE MAD NEGATIVE HAVE A LITTLE FAITH how about when those movies come out (planet bboy and all out war, since they're documentaries), take your friends to go see it. share them in the knowledge. in this world of political turmoil, religious warfare, climate change, inflated prices, and fucking wack music being pounded into people's ears, i have the feeling a lot more people are starting to feel the type of pressure that could suddenly convert them into the hip hop world. whether my speculation is right or not, it doesn't hurt to see these documentaries as OPPORTUNITIES to seize advantage of the current upward trend in bboying while it lasts. while it's still got its exposure before it goes back underground as it did in the past. history, as q-tip noted, shows that things happen in cycles. at the peak of these cycles, that's when the biggest things happen. if you want to be part of the change, then take part in it. i'm serious, THE INTERNET allows information to be spread throughout the world at an instantaneous rate. this type of thing is unprecedented as far as global availibility of information. music artists like souljah boy, i would say, are evidence of the peak of that mainstream shit rap. i think a lot of people are starting to get over that jiggy jiggy shit and other types of music are now dominating the pop charts. **unsubstantiated cuz i didn't do official research** to be continued aight peace |

i like the documentaries such as freshest kids, planet bboy, and all that. those are made as documentaries, to show what it really is,
but movies like You got Served and Step Up are only made to catch and act or talent at the height of its popularity to gain the most money possible out of the situation. the problem with those movies is that people get the wrong idea about bboyin, i heard of auditions for a dance group in my area. they were gonna go around and do shows and get paid for the shows, so i figured why not go do some small shows and make a little cash here and there. when i met the lady in charge she told me that bboyin was about poppin and lockin and some floor moves. i just stared at her and almost started laughin. so pretty much i didnt come back and i'm not gonna do shows with them all in all, this kind of information is what people are gettin from these movies |

oh yeah, those teen dance movies that have been coming out... it's probably a result of a lot of bboys moving to the LA area because Hollywood is right here. for a bboy, LA is the place to be. like i said, bboys who started from other scenes come here, so the cyphers are diverse. if you're dope (even if you're wack) you can get a dancing role in something or even make money from street shows.
it's good for the individual bboy. as for the community, movies like step up 2 tend to misrepresent the culture, which is why we gotta just let those movies ride out the pop wave that they are on, meanwhile we gotta emphasize the TRUTH in the new documentaries that are coming out. hell, if your friends get into it, even the wack movies, sit them down, smoke them out, and watch the Freshest Kids. people just gotta understand that hip hop came from a socioeconomic struggle that isn't localized...it can be felt worldwide and that's why people all over the world can relate to it. it's obviously not for everyone, but it isn't limited as you might think. |

the only problem i get with people is when they're close minded about all of it, then its irritating.
but if someone isnt that educated about the whole bboy scene but are open to learning, then they can be jus as great as any bboy out there |
