Question about shoes.... - 02-24-2008, 05:45 PM

If you wear a certain shoe when you practice, but then you wear a different shoe when you go to jams or dances or something, do you think that it will effect your moves and stuff? Lol yea i know its a stupid question but Im just wondering...

bigger, bulkier, or heavier shoes will affect your stamina, flow, and form, among other things. weight is usually the most important factor.

we train hard enough to lift our bodies in all sorts of positions. adding even some ounces can make us feel the difference.

What if the shoes are actually lighter?

You'll most likely move much faster than you usually do and maybe even trip or get your legs jumbled together because you're not used to the speed and timing your legs usually have.

Also I noticed that the weight can effect your power as well.

Plus you gotta think about grip, shape, and just general 'feel' of the shoe. Sometimes you may go to a jam with a pair of new shoes only to find that you messed up a move because your shoes got stuck doing the move which normally works just fine with your training shoes.

Then again, maybe refined technique will make this a moot point - but for now, I'd recommend training in the shoes you'll want to use at jams. Or at least, train them a couple of weeks before the jam.

I once received a tip to train in heavier shoes, like those 15 dollar velcro-strapped sneakers that you get at Wal-Mart, and then go to jams in lighter shoes like Pumas so that you feel faster and lighter on the floor. I would imagine that it helps, but I haven't been to Wal-Mart in a while to get me another pair of those.

I hope this helps someone,
