yeah but if you're just out dancing, not bboying, then no-one cares if u screw up coz it's just for fun not for show - that's the point! if u don't wanna go out dancing, just dance in your house, but don't try and do bboy steps, just listen to the music and do what your body wants to do naturally - enjoy yourself and don't focus on anything except listening to the music and bopping around.

Is the song you're dancing to the same song thats being played on the video?
If it is, is it in sync?
What song is it?

I just wanted to know these things.

And a question I'd like to ask to all of you experienced bboys / dancers:

Would artoooor's dance qualify for a toprock? I know people mix other dances in with toprock or add a lot of their own expression into it... but is he pushing the boundaries? If I went to a battle and danced like that before going down to footwork or whatever, would that be acceptable? How do you know if it shouldn't be considered toprock or not?

I'd really like to know, because I really like dancing freely, and I would love to dance like artoooor in the video. What I would hate to do is treat toprock as something I have to do before getting on the floor. I love toprock, the standing up part of the dance, and I want to make use of that standing up part as much as possible before working the floor. I'm just afraid that the way I dance might not be acceptable for a toprock.

Free does combine a bunch of dances in his Toprock. I know for a fact that he Houses so that adds to his Toprock. In my opinion do whatever as long as it looks good.

I started breakdancing back in '95 but quit in '98 when I started getting good at moves. Same as a lot of people who don't dance for the love of the dance, but just to reach a certain level of accomplishment.

When I used to breakdance, I would find that I could imagine doing things that were mindblowingly far from the things I would do in real life. I always aspired to be able to do those things but I never was able to break that barrier. Now that I've started breakdancing again I've found that one of the only ways to equal what I'm capable of in only my imagination is to rock to the beat.

My point is: I know it's not conventional, but I consider in many ways my style, or styles, to be what I can bring out of my imagination, not necessarily naturally moving with the music at all.

Oh, yeah, and whoever posted something about how the internet is bad for the development of personal style is completely right. It's easy to be a "bboy for life"(not to dis the term) when you have instant access to everybody else who does the same thing. I noticed that, after 10 years, that things haven't changed much largely; same moves/footwork/powermoves with the exception of air-flares and the "die-hard" skater mentality that somehow got assimilated into breakdancing. And personally, I think it's unfortunate that in that time fluidity was overlooked, so I'll do my part to popularize that.

some bboys link them all together to create 'sets'

other bboys freestyle through the moves they practiced and use them more spontaneously

both ways can be used with/without the music.

you can put personality in any move.

i can't decide which is better because every way of bboying has it's own strengths and weaknesses

if you choose to use group moves, just be sure to add your own creativity or style or personality or whatever that makes your set more personal
