Breakdancing Should be a SPORT! -
11-10-2007, 03:55 AM
dont yall think so?
i know some will disagree but i say that... i mean it would b great for schools! eespically to compete! just like everything else! i mean its competitive,it helps you stay i shape, its non-violent,n its a beautiful artforom that people tend to think Wrong on.... too many people see that it is only spinnin on ur head but they dont see the dancing part! i say we should really bring it from being underground gain n show people the TRUE artform..... but then again i wonder if peopl even care bout tht part...or just wanna b entertained.... I wonder..... |

I think if it was a sport, people would see it as less of a dance lol.

it really wouldnt work out as well as a sport because bboying has a subculture behind it...and that would be left out if it was a sport. it is a dance, with sport-like properties like the whole idea of competition and battling...but it is foremost a dance and should be kept that way. IMHO

Its bboying........ Its a dance....... No sport...... Even if it was a sport...... Why would u use the term "breakdancing" as a name of a sport if the term "dancing" is already in there....... Sorry skippy....... Much more behind bboying than learning the moves like atooor said...... There is a whole culture behind this just as every other dance

To be honest, I want bboying to stay as it is. 'cuz I feel unique when I'm the only bboy around.

B-boying is b-boying. It is great exercise though. I mean just working on footwork can help build stamina.

well, bboying has its "sport side" (do you remember and old nike spot? a girl doing a super breakdance set all alone, and finally saying "i don't have a public but can you say i'm not an athlete?" ... it was something like that) ... but it's mainly a dance.
most of people today practice sport for money (even if they say it's not cause of money), as a bboy i dance for the fun of doing it and taking breakdance in the sport world would ruin most of the fun ... in my opionion ofc ![]() |

because with sports you do things the same way, in basketball you layup, dribble, you have a goal, rules, and restrictions, like any sport. Bboying theres no restrictions its totally a dance, your totally free to dance how you like, you can change it up as much as you want to fit your own style, no rules when your just dancing, your not working towards points, or at least you don't have to. A sport relies that everybody follows the rules of the sport so it can work, bboying theres no rules you need to follow, you express yourself however you want, which makes it an ART form. the fact that they both are physical activities is the ONLY thing in common between sports and bboying. But thats just my opinion. |

hmm....i see what all yal mean....
i mean i can see how some people here wanna stay a RARITy to society n it makes them different.....yea... i just wanna change peoples mind on how they think breakdancing is a HOOD dance just cuz it came from the bronnx or breakers perform in videos n so on.... but i see now why it kinda shouldnt b a sport... but it still has SPOTLIKE abilities or SPORTLIKE potential ya know... but people would just practice to win n not EXPRESS themselves |

I think it's best as an art.
People would just learn b-boying to . . compete. I think there's more to it than battling. |

How about no?
It's a dance, an artform. If it was made into a sport, it'd just be some bullshit for people to watch to entertain themselves. You don't see football or basketball being considered a damn artform. |
