rules,
and restrictions, like any sport.

Bboying theres no restrictions its totally a dance,
your totally free to dance how you like,
you can change it up as much as you want to fit your own style,
no rules when your just dancing,
your not working towards points, or at least you don't have to.

A sport relies that everybody follows the rules of the sport so it can work, bboying theres no rules you need to follow, you express yourself however you want, which makes it an ART form. the fact that they both are physical activities is the ONLY thing in common between sports and bboying.

But thats just my opinion.
Was about to say how many people see dance as a sport, when things like figure skating are considered sports. Then you ruined my argument when you said sports have rules. You pretty much hit the nail on the head, Kasper.
However, with most sports, there's always the option of freestyling; take for instance AND 1, or football (real football, not american football); they only have rules or restrictions when played in match situations.

And I see a lot of people mentioning stuff about the culture behind bboying. Well, sorry to prove you wrong, but bboying also has rules, although they are to do with morals. As one of the elements of Hip-Hop culture, the whole idea of it is fighting without actual violence. There's your rule ;]

But yeah, like vicval said, if bboying became a sport, it'd just become another commercial commodity like American Football, or even what professional Football has become. People no longer focus on the enjoyment of the game, it's all influenced and run by money these days. Don't need to look any further than Chelsea's Abramovich or Glazer buying Manchester United to see what sports have become...

people CAN also put thier all into ONE HUGE DUNK becuz its what they love to do!
dancing isnt the only way to expresss urself here...

it would be nice
but nah
everyone would do it and it wouldnt be as fun anymore
cause i do it do be different and i suck at sports
it's also a friendship and respect thing
i see these bboys ive never met before all i have to do is talk to them a bit and show that i am also a bboy and we got a connection it's pretty sweet
but if it were a sport everyone would be tooooo into it and like it would suck
like football one team or player loses and all the fans hate him...

I will battle everyday to claim my rightful place!

Breakdance is a sport.
I will compare it to soccer, because I have experience in it.

Soccer has creativity in it, what makes it an art. Most of the soccer players don't have the creativity I agree. On tv they are like trying to fake injuries to get penalties and stuff, but real soccer isn't played like that. Ronaldhino (Club: Barcelona) in 1997 until 1999 is a soccer artist for example. How he plays on the field is called art.

Breakdance has same factors like soccer. I will try to put some of them here ( hope I use the right translations from dutch to english) and illustrate them.

Physical intensity.
Brealdance: routines, power, footwork, freezes
soccer: mostly running, dribble, pass

Mental intensity.
breakdance:Create a new new version os an excisting move(creativity), balance, muscle training., timing
soccer: also creativity (see ronaldhino on youtube) balance, muscle training, timing

@vicvalswift
You are saying it's not an artform. I say it can be like breakdance. It dependce on the individual. I tell you like Ronaldhino in soccer, there are also someone like that in basketball. 2 of my friends who breakdance make basketball an artform.

and you say :'If it was made into a sport, it'd just be some bullshit for people to watch to entertain themselves.' It's not because it's a sport why all people watch it. I tell you if breakdance would be worldwide like soccer it would be the same, even if you don't consider it a sport.

Maybe it's something you haven't noticed. Korea hasn't been a soccer country for like all the time I know it, but when the korea has a national team, who is making it to the finals, there suddenly all fans.

So breakdance can be put in the same category as soccer. wheter you call it sport or artform

Anything that's being judged by subjectivity isn't a sport.

I would agree with those bboys who say bboy shouldn't be a sport. Bboying shouldn't be a sport. Like Ken Swift has said before, "Bboying isn't the olympics. It's not broadway either." I would never forget those words of his. Bboying is a dance and an art form. All about showing your foundation/style, having fun, and being creative.

i was reading something the great bboy canadian dizzy said from some other website. and he said something about making a official bboy league, or telling all the bboys to hold on until one is made, something like that.
simular to like football and what not, where bboys can make an actual living off of bboying, where they get paid on an annual basis depending on how good they are.
^^^ that might turn bboying into an extreme sport haha

helll i wouldn't mind getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to dance on national televtision...shiiiiittttt that'd be crazy.
