Breaking imo is still classed in the "cool" category. Even if you suck, but you break at a party, you can be somewhat cool. The better you are, the cooler you are.
It can be considered a nerdy hobby because there so few people doing it, but people's opinions change when they realize they can't dance either. Also when it comes to people who not used to breaking, they are also shy about embarassing themselves and doing something dorky.
