most ppl have same N lame toprocks - 10-15-2007, 11:09 PM

Is it me or do most bboys/bgirls do the same sorta thing while toprocking? Whereas ppl from other dance styles always do something really new n innovative everytime they dance. Maybe its cuz bboy'n started off with the toprocking being meant for solely goin into downrock?

bboying used to be nothing but toprock. going down was unheard of until, don't quote me on this, the nigga twins starting gettin down and doing footwork?

you're not looking at very good bboys if you think all their tops are the same. either that, or you don't know how to appreciate toprock. can YOU toprock?

im w/ ya, tbh i think the problem lies in most bboy's cant actually dance :P

i think ppl should learn to dance then bboy.

most ppl i see its a completly seperate thing from the music, but still same as everyone else.

not sayin im all that great either but i learned breakin from clubbin and bboy's i knew in the clubs in dc had style, skill and rythme with some innovation smeared ontop. (:

toprock wasn't made to go into footwork. however, it belongs, logically, before footwork. in a set. that's common sense though.

btw, what clips do you watch? cats have been uppin like mad on their tops ever since this new flava trend.

i'm glad i saw this. i thought i was one of the few who saw less and less variety; glad i'm not alone. i'll be honest that i'm working on more toprocks as well, but i think the problem is a lot of bboys won't think outside the box and actually DANCE to the music. i've also realized, through observation, that a lot are jumping ahead too soon/fast instead of working on this important basis to bboying [just like the powerheads mentioned above ^ ]

another reason could be that a lot of bboys aren't getting out there and learning/expanding with others.. NOT that there's anything wrong AT ALL w/ just practicing by yourself. i'm just saying it helps to hear others chime in. i say this because i hear it all the time: "you learn/become better when you practice with those who are better". who agrees? i know that's how i improved. it doesn't even have to be where they're "better", but rather they have other moves that you can try learning and incorporating [i'd like to say expanding off of]. it's an incentive to think up new routines and variations ESPECIALLY when you're sessioning/cyphering.

mmk i'm done w/ my rant. sorry, lecture is kinda boring right now [thea 120 lol....]

You're watching way too many mainstream power/blow up bboys.

check out Ynot from rocksteady crew, he's got some crazy ass toprock shit.

but like footwork, toprock has steps too, and its not really that you make up new steps that make it look good, but how you do the steps and the character and attitude you put into it.

you can see two guys do 6step over and over and one may look crappy while the other looks all dope. it's how you make the move look

oh yeah vp i think your right it was the nigga twins that started goin down first, and it was at kool hercs paartaays

usually what i see is the same toprock that kids learned off clips. I dont really watch clips, really only since i joined this site. But ive observed this way back in like 2000 that a whole lota bboys had a awkward flinchy style of toprock that always looked to me like rich kids trying to groove for their first time. I dont think its really knowing how to dance to do a lil ankle twist while ur toprockin. on beat, groovin, and feelin the music is dancein.

like bruce lee said "feel; dont think"

edit: just cause there is like 5 ppl that has mad skills dont make it most bboy's can dance, speakin in general, if you call out the top 10 style guys yeah they all have flava but that is still a small percentage, and im not hatin i just hope that ppl stop to smell the roses, if you rush thru ur toprock just to bust that freeze youve been workin on then yeah your not gonna dance or enjoy it. spread your love over your whole thing not just your power.
