bboy without power - 08-14-2007, 11:36 PM

Can i still break even though i dont have a lot of power? It's just so friggin hard given the time i have to practice, space, and never being able to session. I've been doin mostly footwork and freezes this whole summer and a little of tops and honestly practicing footwork and style is just more fun to me. It's just feels impossible for me to ge the technique down to do power moves. I can at least do Knee spins, lotus knee spins, back spin, a head glide, and swipes (if you even wanna call all those moves power moves.) So would I be accepted as a breaker minus my power ability? (cant do mills, halos, flares, handglide, etc.)

power is just another part of bboying, like bboy blueberry said "its not manditory"

i do power because its fun and also helps with other moves, but yea its friggen hard, i suck at power, but... eventually ill get it, so i keep trying.

Workin on:

flares
straddle planche
90`s
turtles
2 leg hollows
headspins
airchair
flexibility <--- hardest move ever.

Is your join date the date you started bboying? If you've only bboyed for three months and don't have any power, don't think that you'll never get any forever lol
But yeah, you can still be a bboy without power.

yea...btw swipes are power.

foundation and techs hold more appeal to me as well..but if u want to be an all around good bboy, having some basic power would be rather useful for stylish transitions.

I bboy to discover and extend my physical abilities, to better understand the correlation of music and dance, and to further personalize the culture of bboying. What do you bboy for?

Hip Hop is a revolution of artistic standards. A revolution of music from beat-making, dance from bboying, poetic knowledge from freestyling, drawn/sprayed art from graffiti. Who're still aiming to revolutionize? Or are these simply standards of a newer genre nowadays?

I'm a fan of balanced bboying, but some of us are and always will be 'power retarded' perhaps it stems from our disinterest in learning power compared to learning foundation and creating our own style, but you shouldn't look at it as a hindrance, just as a preference.

I don't use powermoves, maybe only 1 or 2, but that merely means I'm stylistic. Just because one lacks power, it does not detract from one's legitimacy as a bboy.

Thanks for the advice guys. It makes me feel alot better. =] I particulary like footwork and style better cause its just more fun to practice to me. Creating your own sets, transitions, combos and all. It really allows the practitioner to be creative. Maybe i'll keep practicing swipes 'til i get them continuos and maybe i'll at least learn to mill or flare but no time soon. fotwork and style comes first for now...

p.s. i started back in march but didnt get serious about it unitl May...
