I've got another question for everyone here. How do you think use of the internet and sites like bboy.org and bboyworld have affected the bboy scene? Has it caused a decline in originality due to the fact that it is easier to bite? Do you think people are as involved in the bboying scene if they have the internet to view and discuss events and battles? State your opinions on these starter-questions and any others you have on this issue.

The internet definitely increased the number of bboys out there which is mostly a good thing. Although it definitely did decrease creativity among starting bboys because it is easier to just bite. All in all I think the internet has helped the bboying community more than it has hurt it.

i believe the internet isn't a bad way to start getting into bboying, but I suggest they get in the scene more and find bboys in their local area to get a better feel of it

the internet can be argued either way. i could argue both ways, but i'll spare you all and only present one point. :P bboying where i am... i've never seen it done. lets put it that way. there's not a single person anywhere around me that i've seen do a single move. however, i'm an athletic person, and i've always been interested in gymnastics to tell you the truth. but, gymnastics is a bit of a girly sport when looked upon by outsiders, (no offense to the gymnasts around here, i realize it takes a lot) so this is MY gymnastics. i have to do it on my own though because no one around here bboys, so the internets given me that opportunity.

the interne helps alot people start out but after you get your foundation down i think you should just stop useing the internet after you get down the basics so you can have your own originality

I started learning foundation from my friends at school, but they're mostly about footwork and toprock and don't teach too many other moves. Bboy.org is like my second teacher.

I think learning from the internet isnt as effective as learning from a teacher because a teacher can actually walk u step by step thru the move. However, if ur in Alaska and want to learn to bboy..... what other options do you have??? I do agree that there are some biters but oh well I say shit happens, nothing is ever as good as the original so I wudnt worry if someone bit my shit. And yes you can be involved in the bboy scene even if u dont have the internet. Just because a person doesnt feel like coming into a discussion topic about a battle doesnt mean they arent as involved so yea...... its kool

It's all about balance. I go to training to chill with local heads and soak up some of the style and it's great for making connections too. But i also like to come here to keep up with friends, check people's progress, find out about sydney jams and shit and discuss topics of hip hop interest. I come here for the social aspect and to make global connections. Make no mistake, i've never used the net for biting or learning moves, if i want to learn i'll session with other peeps.

I would have to say I think its mostly a good thing. Ive met guys from here in real life that I wouldn't have known were in my city unless it was for bboy.org also the moves guides help alot when you're first starting out. But if you do nothing but spend all day on bboy.org and bboyworld then you're never gonna progress so you cant spend all day doing nothing but browsing bboy forums and get anywhere with bboying

the internet is able to go to places where maybe bboying hasnt reach yet, for example a town where no one breaks at all, and the internet gives someone who was curious enough the possibility to learn something that he couldnt of learned in his town and also gives them a lot more, like the guides and stuff...

The Positive Aspect: Internet sites like bboy.org bring the dance to people who wouldn't have found out about it otherwise. Even after being into bboying it took me a while to find the local population. Honestly I probably never would have been capable of finding enough information myself without the internet. Also the increased ability of others to bite should really be treated as an excuse to push yourself harder to come up with better original material. The stronger the challenge the more likely you are to step up your moves.
The Negative Aspect: Honestly, in my opinion, the only negative aspect the internet brings to bboying is on the internet itself. The internet has a certain way of bringing lameness to anything it touches. The general attitude of some people on the internet is 10x worse than anyone you would ever meet in person (Something in the internet just makes people arrogant, irritating, and makes people think they can speak on topics they are completely ignorant about). Also some people will never get off the small stage that is the internet, although to be honest, most of those people never would have found bboying in the first place without it, so it really isn't hurting the scene or anything. In my opinion the internet is a tool for spreading knowledge, and to anyone who is serious about the dance is nothing more than a stepping stone. For some it is the beginning and the end, but I doubt you would have wanted to deal with most of those people anyway so consider that a gift. Peace |

^Word beyond reason.
I think the internet has spread bboy culture to a lot of people but that's like good and bad. Like too many people are good. It's like when only a few people know about it then it's like your thing you know? Then it's like when you battle people...idk it's like UFC I guess. One day you shoop someones ass then the next you get your ass whooped then you whoop that same persons ass next week. Like on Yo Momma (lol) in the first season a lot of people sucked because it was just the first season. Then in the next season everyone had their shit together because they watched the show already and they knew what they had to do, you know? I guess that's life though. |
