I dont know if there was another thread somewhere... but I am wanting to put out a realization that I have come to.
Mainstream music that plays on the radio, now considers "Chicken Noodle Soup" and "Lean Wit It, Rock Wit It" Hip-Hop. What happened to the old school hip-hop? I know there are some artists that keep hip hop feel alive, like common, nas, and some others, but... now hip hop is about leaning with it.. or snapping your damn fingers. I am just saying, that now Hip-hop is being portrayed as a song about girls/sex, cheating on them... um... drugs, how much money you have, or just making up stupid dances. Anyone can write doctor suess lyrics... but hiphop is about the culture, and the 5 elements (bboy,dj,mc,graffiti, knowledge) Its going underground, and many people are getting the wrong impression of what our culture is. Its just that... bboying became a part of me, and the whole hiphop lifestyle is now my way of life. I just dont want people to get the wrong impression of what truly goes on in the hiphop community. PS: Sorry for my novel =P |

"hip hop is dead" is the biggest marketing ploy of the decade. think of how many ppl are talking about this shit, rapping about and putting out tracks saying they're real hip hop and everything. it's all bullshit

^Hahahaha you're not serious
I think you're on the right track riding the wrong train. Think about all the things that have happened lately. Common got #1 tracks coming out, KRS-One teamed up with Marley Marl, Wu-Tang is coming together like Voltron to make a new album and they organize the most dynamic hip-hop tour NA has ever seen. So what if people are pretending to be real hop-hop, people have been pretending to be real gangsters and it looks like it made an impression on people. You gotta fake it until you make it. |

She's already a huge flaming joke, i wouldn't worry too much about the whole thing. She doesn't bgirl, she doesn't listen to much hip hop and thinks Kanye is talented cause "he got stacks" as one of his songs says, she doesn't pop, she doesn't write rhymes, she doesn't tag/piece write and she doesn't DJ to the best of my knowledge.
Anyway, personally, i think their's never been a better time to be a hip hop head. Between the quality shit that Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Common, Rhymefest, One Be Lo, People Under the Stairs, Zion I and the Grouch, Heiro, Styles of Beyond, MF Doom, Jemini, Dangerdoom, Immortal Technique are putting out and the new resurgence of conscious hip hop music, the underground is buzzing more than it has ever been. Crossover artists are enjoying newfound success with good lyrics and the community is learning to collaborate and spread good will instead of beefin' with everyone they dislike. And to be perfectly honest, i really do prefer new school alternative hip hop and underground shit from Lo to half the "old school" shit that i hear people calling classic. Not to diss cats like the Beasty Boys or Run DMC but to be perfectly honest i've just never been down with them that much, i'd prefer to listen to other shit from the last few years that speaks about the times we're in NOW, not the times that we've already had pass. Peace |
