Ayo, is the C-walk over rated? -
08-07-2007, 09:17 AM
What do you guys think? Honestly it looks cool, especially to ppl who have no training in dance (whether it be bboying, popp'n, you know), but is it really that big of a deal?
Like see, everytime I go to a party, a club, w/e...people who think they can dance, try to do the c-walk and thats pretty much all they do, and they assume every trained dancer, including me, automatically should know it. In fact they think I am doing it, since they get so impressed with my toprocks right. But the thing is, I have only recently started serious c-walk training like last week (this may not even last lol). What do you guys think? I have a bboy buddy, who only c-walks when he toprocks..but then he considers himself as just a dancer..instead of a bboy..even though his msn name is bboy *****. So i dunno. I think toprocking, if you are good at it, is pretty sexy still, naa? Even good for the clubs? Like even in those clubs where its too dirty (on the floor) to actually get down n break, you can still use toprocks to dance to impress, init? |

THe thing with the cwalk is of the crip association.....and there is no upper body movements..most if not all vids on youtube with ppl cwalking only shows ther legs...which suggest that their upperbody doesnt move at all...but imo toprocking is way better looking and more energetic that cwalking....have u seen those '6 man cwalks' on the internet...they all basically copy each other doin the same heel-toe thingy for 4 mins...toprocking...well...you can never really master it as there is so much style, flavour and variety that can be thrown in.
oh and nobody shoots you if you toprock...cwalking is dangerous in public...have you notivced that all the vids have ppl either c'walking in their garage or on empty streets were no one can see you...soo yhh. i dont really know where im goin with this..im kinda hungry...and yhh...ill get bak 2 u on that 1 |

lemme express my opinion..
to be honest, c-walking does not belong in bboying.. same as uprocking does not belong in bboying (this can be debated, seeing how 90% of bboys use "uprock", of course not the real one, in battles) again, this is just my opinion, but fuck, c-walking looks retarded to me. and usualy the people have bandanas over their faces & shit, looking all tough, hahahah but hey, thats just me.. anyhow, if some1 only does c-walking as toprock, then i doubt he can be considered a bboy.. i mean, then it isnt toprock, then its c-walking, you get me ? as for the MSN part, lots of people wanna brag about being bboy infront of other people/friends.. like : "ZOMG, TODAY I MADE LIKE 5 HEADSPIN ROTATIONS, MY BREAKDANCING IS IMPROVING !!!!111oneone" and the other dude is like : "wow ur so cool, can i have ur babies ?" jk lol but seriously, people do brag. and people tend to call themselves bboys, or they like to give themselves special bboy nicks (even my nick, wanted to make it cuk, had some errors or something so then added bboy, still hate it god damn), not to mention the long lists of moves they can do in sigs, and the trailers they make of themselves every 2 weeks.. anyway i believe u should let other people give u nicks, consider u a bboy ect.. as for the clubbing part, if u have sick tops, then sure, u can take that style and sort of use it in clubs, i guess. but other than that, i believe people like those club dances (cant remember any names now) other than toprock lol longass post again, felt like writing. peace |

c walk is, honestly, overhyped.
yeah, its a young form of dance (comparatively). but honestly? its kinda a fad, at most. if you wanted to dance well, i'd suggest you concentrate on toprocking. its more varied and its more complete, as it uses more of your body. |

good point, and I completely agree about bandanas over their faces, come on you can only do so much with c-walk, and its kinda like a gang sign. So lets see, its kinda like people randomly shouting "West side". Come on now, just because you say that doesn't mean your cool, the c-walk is sorta of a filler. I know some people who are like "I'm a great dancer", and try to show off, and all they do is the c-walk. Then they lean over and do the c-walk, and they call it style. I just think it looks bad, no offense to those people who thats all they do. what ever floats your boat. learn something else so you don't just do the c-walk, come on now, if thats all your going to do at least learn a glide or two so you can throw it in, and thats more style than just doing the c-walk for 3 minutes. don't you get tiered of doing the same thing. because it might look cool for no more than 3-6 seconds, but when you past 6 its pushing it, and when you get past 10 seconds, come on now you better be doing something really cool with it, and I have never seen a cool c-walk ok this is what I think of the c-walk, c-walk=I don't know what else to do, so I try to look cool its like learning the basics of toprock and not doing anything else when you learn it, you can do the basics to start, or as a filler, or if you have a really cool style to it, same with the c-walk except toprock is better |

c-walkin is in many cases confused with clownwalkin, c-walkin is spellin crips while clown walkin is just the steps used in c-walkin
anyways, back on topic, c-walkin is farily easy, i c-walk and im no longer impressed by it, so in my opinion, c-walkin is overrated |

"Don't use this" in bboying "Don't use that" in bboying. Let's just neglect the fact that bboying is a hybrid of many other dances, gymnastics, martial arts and practices. The moment you put bullshit restrictions on bboying is the moment it ceases to evolve and 'dies'. By 'dies' I mean becomes the dinosaur dance of the past. It's the first step to bboying becoming a more classical restrictive form of dance and losing much of it's personality and expressive quality.
C-Walk is a young dance (yes, real c-walk or clownwalking is a dance, with no more gang affiliation than bboying or uprock had in the old days, get some knowledge before you open your mouths fools), it has moves and lots but its still relatively undeveloped, that doesn't mean it should cease to exist, it means people need to innovate it and obviously none of the people who post their hate on it have an innovative bone in their body because they're to blind to see that. Did you ever see what the original bboying looked like? If it was reversed and C-Walking had started in the 70s and bboying was just getting off the ground in the late 90s all the C-Walkers would be laughing at our idiotic undeveloped movements. C-Walking like any dance known to man can be incorporated to produce a better result in your tops when used properly. But arguing it with the militant bboys of the world is pointless, when it's executed well you'd never even know it was borrowed from c-walk to begin with. As to "Wearing a bandana is stupid" Lots of bboys do that to, guess they're also stupid, so do the graph guys, guess bandana on the faces just makes you stupid doesn't it. |

Do whatever the fuck you want, when you're in the club that's a free for all.
Don't bring that shit to a jam though, you're probably going to be laughed out of the building or get burned by some cat with far better toprock. If you really feel the need to bring c-walking into your toprock, you've most likely got no clue as to how in depth and diverse toprocking styles and movements can be. Peace |

I'm sure if all the originators of bboying spent all their time sitting and thinking "Wow someone might laugh at me for dancing like this" none of us would even be here. When you mix flavors right you make something better, when you mix them wrong you make shit, but if you don't mix them at all because you're afraid or you just don't because something isn't good enough that's lame IMHO. Dance didn't evolve through lack of experimentation, you can't possibly disagree with that statement. |
