Who gets confused about dance style? -
07-25-2007, 07:46 PM
Does anyone here ever get confused as to which dance style they should practice the most thorougly? I mean I bin bboy'n since september with a mostly bboy crew. Some of them can pop (and even lock) and I was influenced by that, so I started popping seriously since a few months back. Whenever I dance, I mix both but I feel like I'm stuck between deciding both.
Like I am more experienced in bboyin but I feel like I can tell a story , like paint a picture better to an audience while popping. And locking I feel like I need to use locking moves every once in a while to keep things fresh. I have no idea what to do, any suggestions? |

Go with what you feel is right. No one can tell you this but yourself. And there is nothing wrong with learning more than 1 style of dance anyway.

Umm i do whatever the hell i feel like doin.
Sometimes i'll be watchin some vids or playin some music..and i'll be like "damn i wanna bboy". So i bboy. Other times i'll be in a semi-pissed mood, gettin the hype and buck music goin..all the sudden im like "damn i wanna krump". So i krump. Or i'll be hella happy..the sun will be shinin..and i got some hella good old school funk goin on...i get so happy im all like "damn i wanna pop and be funky". So BAM...i pop. I dance whatever dance i feel like dancin at the moment. In the end its all practice. U don't hafta stick to one or the other, or practice one seriously or the other...jus dance however u feel like dancin that day..and gradually u'll get better at every style you get into. |

I guess the idea is ..that on a whole, no dance style is THE BEST eh? Not for competition or putting on a show at least. Only time a certain style maybe the best is when it comes to which you feel most comfortable practicing.
Although some styles are more in depth styles then others i believe. Such as bboying and popping. Bboying has a whole library of and so does popping (if you count all the funk styles its related to, like tutting etc). But something like crip walk, I guess that is not a very in depth style, like one with a whole library of moves? Or am I wrong? I bin learning crip walkin recently, influenced by one of my homies in my crew, he's a bboy but he crip walks when he is supposed to toprock, it doesnt' look bad. |

mix ur dance styles together.
if you're going to battle though, then use that style and have your other styles INFLUENCE the one you're competing with. |

I bboy to discover and extend my physical abilities, to better understand the correlation of music and dance, and to further personalize the culture of bboying. What do you bboy for?
Hip Hop is a revolution of artistic standards. A revolution of music from beat-making, dance from bboying, poetic knowledge from freestyling, drawn/sprayed art from graffiti. Who're still aiming to revolutionize? Or are these simply standards of a newer genre nowadays? -Unofficial Deignorizer |

Some songs, I want to rock it. Others, i want to battle rock it, while with others I want to pop and tut. Only problem is that, I can't pop or tut, haha, but I'm feeling the music!

Whatever you feel like doing.... lol... Don't just choose one..
It's good to practice different dance styles... it labels you more as a "great dancer" |

it doesnt matter man. do what you wanna do. Its best to be an all around dancer. Like me, I pop, lock, tut, krump, c-walk, bboy, i do club dances, i do it all. It just depends on what's playing and how I feel.

I'll just start off by saying the majority rappers today have no intention of supporting hip-hop culture. If you don't support the culture, then you aren't really hip-hop.
