School showcase - 03-30-2007, 07:17 PM

So I think I'm planning to do a school showcase for my grad show (we have one every year near may). This is my last year and all so. I started bboying 2006 of August.
I'm planning to just do one song (DJ Junk - Going the Distance), since I'll be the only one doing it (I'm like the only one who bboys in my town )
That song is like 2 minutes so I think I'll be fine

Any routines tips or just general tips?

2 minutes longer than you think, but whatever you want to do.

get some other ppl to do some footwork/ pop lock/ c walk...etc... Then you come out at the end and do some crazy stuff. Variety is the key to a sucessful show. If you just wanna do a solo thing, make sure you work hard on you toprocks and footwork. Try to get millz learned too... (non bboys consider that the signiture breakdance move along with headspins) the audience goes crazy for that.

Hm, lemme see

-all steps except 12 step (no proper guidance for 12 )
-Lkick/Nike
-Hand/Head-stand
-Handglide/Baby freeze
-Top/uprock
-Footwork
-Forearm stand/Nike
-Elbow airchair (I don't know what you would call this, It's an airchair, but not stabbed with your elbow. Instead your hand is stabbed and your elbow is on the ground supporting you. I can only hold it for like 2 seconds)
-Backspin

I donno, I forgot the whole list I'll edit this once I remember them

Meanwhile I'm learning windmills and 90s/Handhops

Mind you Going the Distance by DJ Junk is only 2 minutes long so..

= I might get my friends band to play that song (they're not a rock/metal band or anything like that). They're like a 7 man band with instruments (trumpet/drums/trombone/guitar etc.) and they play ska music but they have played a couple Rocky songs and seeing as how Going the Distance is... you get the point.

Just do whatever you can do to make the crowd root for you. I personally never did performances until I knew I was at least good at bboying.

2 minutes is a lot...even if you do have 2 minutes of material you're bound to be tired out before then

I know that, but ever since I started (bboy) - I've gone over straight 2 minutes (of practice) and by now I don't think I'll have TOO much problems. Maybe little minor ones but nothing big

So any suggestions?

Just bust your shit, and practice a routine, or at least some combos, just practice rocking out to the song. If you think you can do it up for 2 minutes, then just practice, get everything tight and clean, and just think about some cool combos and stuff to please the crowd, I mean this IS a performance for a bunch of non bboys right? So just go nuts, blow up big time.
