Biting? - 03-24-2007, 11:59 AM

Alright, so I was deep in thought about the topic 'Biting' in the shower.
Yes. I think the most when I'm in the shower, but thats not the topic we're going on about here

I've seen a Rivers Crew vs Able Crew (I think it was Able Crew) where one of the bboy's on Able crew did the same finish off as Born. (You know where he airchair spin/glides in the end). OBVIOUSLY, that was biting.

But to what extent does biting limit? If I tried to explain my thoughts, it'd become way too complicated to read and understand - since it'll be something like

This and this with that and this doesn't work out to be that which then this.. etc.

Yeah - I would most likely be caught up in my own words. So I'd like any of you to explain to me how far biting can go? What is EXACTLY considered biting other then copying an exact same routine and such?

i think usually when they do the same power combo or freeze in a battle they are trying to show that it is nothing and they can do it 2 rather than "biting"

I'm not asking what biting is - I'm asking to what extent does it go

I consider biting as stealing someone's style, not they're routine. Look, there aren't a billion bboying moves out there, somewhere in the world there is always a bboy doing the exact same routine as you and neither of you would know it. But if you take the style from the moves he does AND you do the same moves, then that's obviously biting... 2 or more people having the exact same style in their transitions, footwork, tops, etc is way too rare to have just been a coincidence

and yeah, if during a battle someone does the same part of a routine or signature move of someone, it's just to show that he can do it too, no sweat.

You wouldn't say something if someone busted out your signature move in a battle lol.??

people take biting way to far (not the biters but the people calling them a biter)

When it's simple shit as a move or a freeze, thats not biting

but if its a routine or a set then thats a bite

It's such a grey area. It's all personal opinion of what crosses the line.

i dont think biting a power combo is biting... but if theres a unique move that only one bboy does like hong 10s freeze and some dude takes it then its biting

...the only thing that makes the hong10 freeze "unique" is that he walks and spins with it, the freeze was invented before hong 10 came to the scene. Remember he began bboying around 5 years ago. Old timers could have done the freeze in the same way but it was never caught on video.

Basically to stay on topic. In my opinion, if someone is purposely trying to "bite" then they will have no type of style in their move/combo they are trying to bite because obviously they are trying to do what u do, and everyone is their own self. Ya'll should see the Ken Swift Collection Double DVD, he talks about how he wanted to become like this cat in NYC when he started Dancing, but then he figured he couldn't cuz he was himself and the other dude was himself. Who would have though that Kenny wanted to bite someone else and he resulted to have one of the sickest styles in the scene.

If you doing something after you saw someone else do it, and its original, your biting! The only grey area is whats really original? Thats kind of hard to say. But really the only problem is you have to actually know breaking to call bites. The "Hong 10" freeze is also mad basic. Its just a stabbed head hollow.

i think biting can only be done in certain times... like u can bite someones dynamic powermoves just to show them that its not so special(but thats only if ther battling you and u wanna show them up a lil)

and also agreeing with above... style and trademark freeze styles
but i doubt many can mess up ther freeze and roll around the floor as good as hong 10 =p

Yeah, it may be basic, but it's hard as hell. Many b-boys aren't flexible enough to even get into it, nor are many able to move with it like he does.
