i'm sooooooo sad T_T - 03-22-2007, 02:40 PM

so i got this back injury that just won't go away >.< it has been almost a month now. I think the reason is cause i couldn't stand not practicing and i wouldnt let it heal. even a 10 min sesh would pretty much ruin my back again. so i am not gonna do anything until it heals...hopefully. maybe just some handstands...NO!!!
anyways i had a dream last night where i lost all my skills and i couldn't do anything. it was really scary...
so...what would you do if one day you woke up and you couldn't even do a handstand ever again
i'd be sad and my life would be over T_T

lol Be sure dude u really won't lose anything of ur skills. Maybe u can't do some of ur stuff not so good/clean like the time before, but u'll get it back in no time.
The best example is me My both wrists are injured since 8 months and I can't practice handstands, planches etc. For two weeks I decided to continue working on my forearm hops. After four days I accustomed on it again and now I'm much better than the months before and that after only one week! The same with other stuff like head hollows or elbow hollows...the strength or balance was no problem and I couldn't practice for 8 months!! So don't be afraid - life (b-boy life ^^) goes on!!

ya lots of ppl with bad backs these days
heres the advice i gave fatsliff, your case might not be the same, but most backs can be dealt with the same way

-once it isnt stiff and its noticeably much much better, stretch really really lightly, and stretch for comfort, not flexibility.

good theraputic stretches for backs
-lie on back, pull one knee up to chest; also pull foot across to opposite shoulder
-lie in a tuck, or rest on ur shins in a praying positions and put shoulders and head on ground
-hang on a bar to elongate the spine
-sit in chair and twist side to side, some people like to feel the pop

if its mainly muscle pains, aches, or strains, u shouldnt hav any problems with stretching, but if its a deep, constant pain, u might hav disc problems or spinal injuries. the bottom line is, only do stretches that feel good and dont hurt.

i had a back problem from doing too much stuff - weight lifting (squats messed me up), football practice, breakdancing, sitting all day in school, bad bed - and i am still not fully well, but i iced, bboyed less, and basically took it easy, and got better in about a week. icing helped tons.

trust me on not pushing urself with a back injury. i kno this b/c my dad was an potential olympian gymnast when he was young until he messed up his back from repeated injuries. now he is in his 50's and he is still dealing with disc problems, and trust me you dont want those, because once you have it and its bad, it stays with u for a long long time, and not only will u not be able to bboy, u wont be able to do hardly anything without a huting back.

I have been out for 3 months because of a back injury I got from practicing hollows (pulled lower back muscle) The thing is I keep practicing my tops everyday which is the reason my back isn't healing. But once that beat starts playing I can't seem to help myself. Sigh. I can't wait to get down on the ground again. But gluck bro I know exactly how you feel.
