surfaces for spins, mills, etc - 03-20-2007, 09:53 PM

adjusting to surfaces has always been the thing i hate most about learning moves. transitioning my mills from carpet to hard floor was a nightmare. also, im having trouble doing headspins on floors that arent really polished.

my main question is in a performance/battle/real time situation, how unpolished to rough can a surface feel to be just good enough to bboy on, and also, what is the usual dance floor like

i want to start practicing on the types of floors ill be on during the real deal

well, as far as i know, no one battles on carpet or cement. except maybe toprock or footwork only battles... and even then, it ruins the shoes.

Gravel/sandpaper/broken glass strewn on solid steel/lava ... these are just some of the many surfaces REAL bboys break on. Your not a man until you have headglided over 10ft across lava.

Will dance for food.

There's a school dance in two weeks at my school, and too bad the only surface we can dance on IS carpet, and I REELLY don't think I can bring some cardboard in there.

Practicing:
Flares
Footwork: um..my own style?
Freezes: Airbaby [Hopping].Handstands [Forearm, Hollows, One-handed, Solar Eclipses, Stalls]
Mills

the only thing a smooth floor is good for (in terms of bboying) is rotational power like mills, and 90's....u can practice air tracks, flares on carpet, sand paper and what not.....

a true bboy floor is a wide open space thats flat
