Essential Must Have Hip Hop -
12-31-2006, 01:22 AM
Hey i recently found a torrent site that's pretty decent for hip hop music and i'm looking for some essential artists and albums that i should get. So yeah, hit me up with some classics if you can, would be much appreciated, i can never remember the really good ones, i only ever end up with individual songs.
Peace

Using demonoid at the mo, it seems to be fairly good for getting some hip hop here and there, if their's better places people know of/can invite me to let me know.
Peace

Nas - Illmatic (get Stillmatic too cuz i've been bumping the fuck outta Nas lately)
A Tribe Called Quest - Low End Theory (Midnight Marauders was pretty highly acclaimed too, but didn't have the revolutionary impact that Low End Theory did)
Blackstar - Mos Def and Talib Kweli Present Blackstar
and One Be Lo - SONOGRAM (this album is relatively new, but his lyricism is just SO SICK. I've been bumping it for over a year, I still catch something new everytime, One Be Lo is just godly)
those, for me, are the must haves. no nonsense, no bullshit, just straight up good hip hop. everyone reading this: if you dont have the albums I just listed, slap yourself then download them haha.
other albums I'd recommend:
Wu Tang - 36 Chambers
MF DOOM - Mm..Food
Madvillain - Madvillainy
Dangerdoom - the Mouse and the Mask
Nas - Hip Hop is Dead
Binary Star - Masters of the Universe
Typical Cats - Typical Cats
Mos Def - Black on Both Sides
Jurassic 5 - Power in Numbers
Blackalicious - The Craft, Nia, and A2G (all three are excellent albums)
Benefit - B.E.N.E.F.I.T.
Typical Cats and Benefit are pretty unheard of (relative to the other artists i've mentioned), but their shit is hot fire. it's a shame they dont get the recognition they deserve.

Yeah i should have clarified before i'm mostly looking for albums, so if you mention an artist, it would be awesome if you could mention the albums to get as well, i'm trying to build up a collection.
Thanks heaps for that Sikk and VP, <3 to both of you.
Peace
P.S-I've already got illmatic and Hip Hop is Dead, i'll look up some of the others now as well.
