The Most Under-rated Powermove -
09-19-2006, 12:49 AM
I think the halo or track as it is also known as is the most under-rated power move because it is very dangerous for your neck and it is basically an airtrack, only with your head on the ground, kind of making it better than airtracks/flares in my opinion because you need to use your head too. I am talking about the hard kind of halos, the kind you pop, not the sliders. I just think this move needs to be given a little more respect (the popping kind).

Power in general is not held in high regard by alot of bboys. I don't think it's underrated it's just that bboying is an aesthetically determined dance and to alot of bboys now, seeing a set with some tops, footwork, a few freezes and pikes with mad style stands out above the crowd in comparison to powermoves that are often repeated and become somewhat tired after having seen them the first few times.
I still want to learn alot of power but having a good foundation of toprock and footwork is what will set other bboys apart from each other the most as their style comes out most noticeably there. Peace |

overated would be windmills
underated would be...handspins! |
|
its about how much you practice...not how talented you are..
most important aspect of a bboy? determination.. time > knowledge > skills |

I also think forehead windmills are underrated (also why I learned them, I like doing things the hardway, I'm sick, get over it). You very rarely see ameteurs performing headed windmills. Heck, Mason Boy and Sumal never even made the conversion.

I think my teacher mentioned something similar called to headed windmills, called it "headrock" and commented that alot of older school bboys used it.

I think Airflares are overrated thanks to the darn Koreans desensitising the world to them. If you ever see a real old school bboy do an airflare show a little respect, or get chain checked. In general I think alot of new school bboys starting out get desensitised so quickly to watching all these power moves, and the dancers performing them have been doing them for years and make them look easy, and it leads the new bboy into thinking that it is easy but the truth is it takes an incredible amount of dedication energy and time put in. The whole desensitisation I think is terrible, like young boys who watch violent movies.

I think windmills are overrated. Everyone does 'em.
The most underrated? The Y-Glide. I haven't seen that since the "Step Into a World" vid by KRS-One, and that move is off the chain. |

The most under rated powermoves are the hand glide, and swipes.

Airbabies are definately overrated, it's not that hard, it only looks impossible the first time you've seen it. And for the big boned bboy it is impossible or close to impossible, you need to be the light athletic type for that move, which may be why I think it's easy.
Oh hell yea, swipes are definately underrated, I flippin' love swipes, one of the first power moves I learned. They're just so pleasant and once you catch them doing 1 legged/master swipes or whatever they're called they just start to feel real good, no pain except in the twist a little bit. 1 legged swipes are great for your bboy career because the longer you do them they will just keep getting smoother and better looking, it's a move that will take the rest of your life to master. |

Yeah, I've gotta agree with you on the airbaby part. Nobody how many light weights I lift and how much I jog and jumprope, I can almost never pull off that move. I'm naturally a little heavy, anyway (5'10'' 178lbs, 7% body fat during boxing training season).

I always thought airbabies were a pose. Windmills are basic power, everyone should have them in my opinion. And Jz, do you mean backrocks? Unless headrocks and backrocks are two different things, I myself am working on getting back rocks down.

That's my bad on the airbaby, forgot the topic was just power moves, but that is kind of a "power" freeze... hehe
A power move that get's it's due is babymills, everybody loves a good babymiller! |

Word. I also think tombstones are under-rated. I don't see many people do those.
