An observation - 09-16-2006, 07:03 PM

Well Ive noticed that people dont know much about history here cuz of the question about the gangs being part os elements of hip-hop. Well its not that they dont know I guess, its that the history is questionable. Soooooooooo dont u guys think it wud be better to have written test to get in crews now about the history so they wud know the mental and the physical parts of breaking since there r 2 parts. Cuz the leader of the crew thats the founder of mine said that he wanted me to battle every1 in it AND have a required written test so that I wudnt be misinformed about the history. Wut u guys think about this idea????

I think da whole written test thang is jus takin thangs too far. Bboyin is a culture yea...but u learn that type of stuff as u go. A crew shuld be there to help educate a new member, not bar out new members becuz they didnt sit there and read da internet all day about hip hop. Ya dig? Peace n' Love

You learn the culture of your own accord and motivation, a written test to enter the crew is probably not a good idea because half the people around here get their info off the net and off wikipedia etc so that's questionable at best.

Too much of bboying history is in dispute, so no i wouldn't recommend the written test but as for battling crew members to gain entry, that's the same thing that RSC initiates went through so yeah, that's a good idea.

Peace

simply put:
the history is still disputed; not all the facts are as hard as concrete, or, if youre a pervert, a penis after overdosing on viagra

so if you have a written test/exam to judge who can be in the crew, it wont be fair b/c some people may have learned it differently from others, and your crew leader or w/e probably learned history his own way

AND THEN if you have the test then eventually SOMEBODY will start a controversy over the "real" history of hip-hop

and then youll get in an argument and waste your time. and youll waste so much time that in the end youll die of old age

so

history test on hip-hop = die of old age

Taking a test to get in a crew? Naw... then all the people who fail the test will probably make a crew by themselves and destroy your educated crew in a battle.

Its not a good idea. A real crew is like family, you get in a crew by spending time with them and forming real friendships with every member. Making someone write a test would make it like a fake crew.

my .02:

I think anyone that has dedication, truly enjoys bboying, and has the drive to learn more, should be allowed in any crew regardless of their knowledge of hip hop. As bad as this may sound, I'm not big on the history part, but I enjoy dancing and learning.
