How long until you got good? - 09-12-2006, 11:54 PM

How long did it take you guys until you really got your shit down? I mean I got 6 step, 3 step, CC, baby freeze, almost chair freeze, some toprock, and now learning air swipes (almost got those) and I'm only on my 3rd week. I understand style and skill comes with time and practice but how long until you guys really could put shit together, I still feel sloppy and can't put anything together well yet.

What up,

I guess I wouldn't say that I'm actually "good" yet, but like this is kind of how my learning process goes.

Try a move fail
Try a move fail X 900,000
Try a move fail

Second day I try I'm a little better

Third day I get it and it becomes natural.

Not to get all scientific but your brain builds up synapses that let electrical impulses jump more quickly, that's how you ride a bike. Just keep goin and eventuall you'll get your flow one day. Let it become natural, like driving or walking.

Good luck man

Well, i'd say if you put it like dat- who knows how long it might take you. I bet it took legendary bboys, years to get "good" enough to be legends. I've bin breakin for like a little over a year, n I wuddnt say im "good"- not even decent, if I was to compare myself to others on here.
-I still cant get multiple flares, and im still scared of airtrax.

All about the Analyzation - 09-13-2006, 03:44 AM

Preface: Please dont take offense to this post. By my nature of writting guides I naturally want to explain everything step by step. I'm not trying to be condescending.

It doesn't take years to be good or legendary. When you become "good" all depends on how fast you learn.

A person that constantly tries a move and fails 900,000 times... the next 900,000 times a person will still fail. The moment they learn from their mistake is the moment they will get the move right man.

Muscle memory..... same stuff as the synapses and junk .... really cool stuff.

Analyzation:

Tape a video of yourself doing a move that you fail at. Put that footage on your computer. Bring up a another video of a person that does the same move correctly, and compare your video with his/her video side by side. Dont watch the videos once or twice. Watch them like 20-30 times each and try to spot where you went wrong. After you LEarNed where you went wrong think about how to fix it then execute your thoughts.

Through Analyzation I found out the following:

It took me a while to figure out a what components I needed for my coindrop. I kept landing too hard on shoulder or hip. I wasn't using enough side spinning motion, and I wasn't kicking my second leg off the ground towards my head hard enough. When I did, I felt almost nothing.

This is why you see some bboys either get stuck on a move for 3months to a year, or they get it down in a week or less.

KAIZEN- Constant self-improvment.

Perfect work -> Perfect Results
Oustanding work -> Oustanding Results
Excellent work -> Excellent Results
Great work -> Great Results
Good work -> Good Results
Poor Work -> Poor Results
Nothing

^ None of that chart is true. The truth is that Perfection in work gives you Outstanding results. It works that way for all levels. If your do a poor job at work you will get fired, and have nothing.

i have two points to make:

-you should never consider yourself good.
-and some people may think you're good while others dont.

If you get and transitions and powermoves and awesomely creative footwork and tops, and you cant dance, your not good. in fact, your crap.

Learn how to dance no matter what you do, remember bboying is part of dancing and know that it has the same basic concept as every other dance out there.

I agree, you can't say you're good, though you CAN say you've pretty much mastered a move. Do that with a lot of moves and ppl will say you're good lol

Straight up. But it can take a hella long time to learn from your mistakes. Like I think yeah I should be doin this but it takes a while to implicate it. But I def agree. I think I overexaggerate a little lol. Oh, and no offense taken man, i agree w/ u.

Peace
