Building up ABS - 09-12-2006, 07:50 AM

Hey guys, i'm movin on the the harder moves, specifically windmills and flares, and i'm finding that the reason i'm struggling so much is cuz my abs just give up. i think if i had stronger abs i could perform the powermoves a lot better, soo, how do i accomplish that? do u guys hit the gym, do a shitload of crunches, or just build them up by breakin? any advice appreciated, thanks.

Your very right that flares and windmills require ab strength. However you will get the strength 10 times faster just practicing the moves then you would doing crunches.

Yeah. Just keep practicing the moves. Then your body will will adapt and get stronger.

Might as well throw in some crunches or whatever at night.

Yeah, just keep doing the moves. And if you want specific exercises, FORGET THE CRUNCHES. They're an age old exercise that's recently been proven to be not very effective. Just do 10 second ball crunches and leg lifts with a weight attachment.

you can also try v-ups (lay flat with arms extended and bring up feet and try to touch your feet)

The jump rope (along with weights and bboyin') got me back into peak physical condition in one month. And don't starve yourself either. We're young, and our metabolism is already high. So eat whatever you want, just as long as it's in moderation. Worry about dieting when you get older.

Anyway, yeah. The jump rope is my favorite cardio exercise. Research shows that if you jump rope everyday for one month for 1/2 hour, you can increase your jump height by 3 inches. That's tite. Oh yeah, don't forget to jump rope on a soft surface. You'll ruin your knees if you don't. I recommend roping at a track or a gym floor. The speed bag is good too. I've adopted training routines used by the world's best boxers like Ali, Tyson, Manny Pacquiao, etc.

Some people just have thicker stomaches than other people and it takes harder work for definition but that doesn't mean the abs arent strong. Some peopel are built for power combos better than other people and will have an easier time learning the techniques because of this. Just because your abs aren't strong enough right now just means you will have to work a little harder then the ripped type of bboys. If I were you I would watch what I eat and work on your arms and abs because arms are real important in flares too.

I thought flares wasn't hugely arm strength, but moreso technique and sweeping leg momentum?

Yeah i've been needing to get back into physical shape for ages but i just never make the time, i'm such a lazy ass.

Peace
