wanna talk a little about you... -
09-11-2006, 06:38 PM
Theres a lot of diffrent people coming here,, newbees, experienced and so on... And there always seem to bee a lot of diffrent opinions.... some say that this is hiphop and that is not hiphop,,, some like to preach about the diffrent elements of hiphop... as if hiphop was an absolute truth. I even seen posts that basically say that white people shouldnt dress in baggy clothing hehe! C-walk, clownwalk, crumping, newstyle, fashion, mainsteam, gangsta are they not a part of hiphop? If you dont think so, how/why did they appear, what are their purpose? History rewrites itself constantly. Isnt it a good thing that hiphop is growing and evolving?
Some people say that you cant do THAT in bboying because its not how it should be. As if bboying was a striktly mechanical dance,, Is it not better to define a dance of what it is built up of, rather than what you cant do with it? Isnt the point of dancing to show your creativity and passion? I say that you can put whatever you want in your dance, as long as you dont take away what makes bboying bboying. Don Cambell, the creator of cambellocking said that the only thing that you cant take away from locking is the lock. If you take it away it wont be locking no more. Why do some people have so hard thinking the same way about hiphop? For me, bboying is built up of freezes, toprock, downrock and powermoves. Other than that you can do prettymuch whatever you want. If you wanna put in some waltz, then why dont you! If nothing it could be a perfekt diss. What Im saying is that there is a lot of tough guys saying this and that, preaching their art of nothingness …But what it all comes down to, is what you think yourself. Also wanna say that I love this site and everybody here C-ya ![]() |

I have to agree with you, but some time combining dance styles just looks wrong. Or sometime it ruins the fluidity of a set. If you can pull of a combo of dances and make it look good, i think its all the power to ya!

SNOWY- for sure i think you totally hit the nail on the head.
Why do we want to see the same old boring moves over and over. If you don't try different styles you never gonna know what works. I do all style I'ma b-girl, i krump, street latin, hip hop chore and freestyle, belly dancing. Plus over the years learning bits of different style like jazz, funk blah blah, then i put it all together into a style no-one has seen it's unique and no-one can bite it. You have to constantly educate your brain and body on moving in different ways so that when you thing off the top of your head you have a vocabulary of dance moves and bits thats gonna blow everones mind away. People that have closed view on hip hop saying thats not it nd you shouldn't do this are just uneducated and jealous that the person got mroe moves then them. People always hate in others what they actually hate in themselfes. So praise those who are style starters. Thats the only way we can evolve peace! |

it really all depends on how you present your style. i've seen a couple enter 2on2s and they threw in some salsa shit into their routine, and it was dope so the crowd loved it. you can throw in other moves as long as you keep it bboying.
i bet if they threw in a little krumping it wouldn't have been too bad either. but if they did a set where the krumping or salsa overpowers the bboying aspect, then for sure they wouldn't get a positive response. change happens slowly, but it happens. just like the evolution of man, hip hop isn't gonna change overnight to become incorporate c-walking and shit. but if the change isn't needed, then it's not gonna happen. it's natural selection, man. the dope shit stays in, the wack shit gets extinct. |

Name a single whack looking move in bboying..apart from some lameass toprock that some of these fools do....oh and maybe helicopters......shit even backspins look tight.
I just don't see why these cats would want to mix styles, most of them are still learning the fundamentals and slighly more advanced moves, in fact most of these cats don't have dope looking bboy style yet, so why the hell they going on about mixing in other shit? Focus on bboying first, get to practicing that, learn all the moves you possible can and when you're a top bboy who's at the upper most echelon of the dance, start experimenting with other styles, but i don't understand, why this big trend in mixing styles now? It's not like bboying is lacking in dynamic appeal, attitude or excitement. Yall need to re-evaluate your head. Peace |

So basically I think me and you are pretty much in agreeance about this, except you said one thing which is very dangerous to bboying: "its all about what you think yourself" WRONG! What bboying is, isn't a personal opinion. You can't say "I think bboying is drinking beer and fucking a pig, and thats just my opinion", becuase its just not a matter of opinion. What bboying is, is "a specific style of dance" and thats a fact! Unfortuneatly the problem with this is, that defition sucks balls. What makes bboying bboying, is a very hard to define fact, but a fact none the less. Imagine if everyone thought that bboying was whatever you think it is, the real art itself would be lost forever. |
