Hello, I'm pretty new here. A breakdancer came to my school and taught us some stuff and now I'm really into it. I like how it's an actual dance and not just showing off. Where's a good place to start off as a newbie, and what's a good material to breakdance on?

breakdance on a hard, smooth surface. preferably linoleum. learn basic toprock and footwork.
you will progress eventually; you will learn about the true essence of breakdancing: expression. it took me a year to learn that. go figure. if anybody fucking mentions anything about either of us saying "breakdancing" or "breakdancer," i will rip your fucking balls off and stuff them in your nose so you have to breathe through your mouth unless you wanna smell cum |

The term bboying wasn't really used until the early 90s; till then it was only breaking. So, bboying or breaking, and like I've said before you'll use those terms if you want to keep it real. Anyway,
always start off with foundation, which means always working on your toprock, learning how to groove to music, and your footwork. |

Then learn basic freezes, like the handglide freeze, baby freeze, chairfreeze. There's a guide in the freezes section, it's called Foundational Freezes

Depending on your age, you might want to think about endurance training and possibly a light weight training regiment, because being in shape will make the progression in your b-boy career effortless.
