Mixing dances - 09-04-2006, 08:41 AM

how do you feel about mixing dances?

like if a guy would be average at; Toprock (and bboying in general), Popping & Locking, Krumping and C-walk

i know most of you hate C-walk for no reason at all, but that doesnt mean it doesnt look good

and krumping, (i know most of you hate it too) but i think adding just a few krump steps would look good

I've never been a big fan of mixing styles, most of the time the result is whackness, especially with krumping since it is in such contradistinction to bboying and especially toprocking.

Not advised at jams either, most judges will mark you down for mxing styles as they will either think you're disrespecting the dance or padding out your repertoire cause you're out of material. The only real exception is popping, which is mixed into bboying by some at jams but for the most part, try not to mix, it often leads to confusion in your dancing and a sloppy mixed up style of rocking and popping.

Keep them separate is my opinion, but that's just me.

Peace

i wasnt really talking from a bboy perspective, maybe like from a music video where popping & locking would be the main dance, and the others a flavour

Could look okay, more likely it will become a corruption of one or both dances. The only people who do that sorta stuff are those cats in mainstream filmclips and most of them are whack and cheapen the dances.

Stay away is my advice.

There are of course exceptions however such as mixing locking with popping which alot of old school cats did back in the day and some of which are still doing it now. No idea about the other dance styles mind you.

THANK YOU JZ, finally someone who understands that lol. I think its pretty lame to mix bboying with most other dances. I hate seeing some cat start rocking, then he stops and does some popping move, then starts rocking again. The heck is that? You really look like a joke to lots of bboys when you do things like that, especially the older heads. Breakin is breakin.
