i was thinking he other day and im all, 'when do you consider yourself a bboy/bgirl?'
is it when you start to dance? or get into breakin? or is it when your are really good? cause i consider myself a bgirl, i dance here and there but im not very good. i meen it takes severl months to become what you want and all and i dance cause its an expresion on how i feel plus its hella fun! one of my friends said.. " ur not good, plus you havent danced ina while so ur not a bgirl" when i was thinking, ya i know im not that good, you dont have to rub it in, and ya i ahevnt danced ina a while but i still do it here and there, i still consider myself as a b-girl cause i know about it and im interested, i studdy it, plus i break. i really dont know waht she is talking about. hard 2 explain, but you know? i have a buddy who is in the same situation and all, i meen we are going to dance the summer away and all, cause we are both really busy at school with preforming arts and all like music, dance, theater... so this comming summer, we both be dancing till the sun sets so when do you consider urself a bboy or girl? |

from the looks of ur situation, u can be callin urself a bgirl. ur skill level doesnt matter. the way i look at it is that if someone is dedicated, practices at getting better, does it to express not just to impress, and most of all, LOVES DOING IT, then they can call themselves a bboy/bgirl.

do u love the dance? than ur a bboy
no bboy is born knowing the culture, or born being sick. No one will ever control who or what a bboy should know....a true bboy is the one who feels the music in their soul, that makes them a bboy. |

Yea in my opinion a bboy/bgirl is someone who loves the dance, music, and culture. Who cares if you're not world-class, if you love what you do than you are just as much of a bboy/bgirl than they are. |

red_queeen]i was thinking he other day and im all, 'when do you consider yourself a bboy/bgirl?'
is it when you start to dance? or get into breakin? or is it when your are really good? *****I Never read the post so I'll try n respond more to what is going on with you and maybe some advicve. I'll sum up the question at the end. K? cause i consider myself a bgirl, i dance here and there but im not very good. i meen it takes severl months to become what you want and all and i dance cause its an expresion on how i feel plus its hella fun! one of my friends said.. " ur not good, plus you havent danced ina while so ur not a bgirl" ******Skill is not a pre-requisite for the title of being a bboy. As a matter of fact the title of bboy comes from history and it is a title used for ANYONE breakdancing, it was the term they identified with themselves. It has only been recent that people have become obsessed with who is and who isnt, whats a poser n whats not. In the old days it was simple, if u break ur a bboy. Now adays apply the same attitude. You dance for you, do u love it? Than youve earned the title. The rest is learned. Some bboys dont dance a lot, life comes n goes....ken swift doesnt always dance ALL the time but he finds time to get down, hes a bboy. A lot of people as they grow up get less time or need to focus on things, it is NOT about time in the game but what ur doing. If you love it and its part of u and u make it such than uve earned the title. when i was thinking, ya i know im not that good, you dont have to rub it in, and ya i ahevnt danced ina a while but i still do it here and there, i still consider myself as a b-girl cause i know about it and im interested, i studdy it, plus i break. i really dont know waht she is talking about. hard 2 explain, but you know? *****People who point out the flaws in other peoples talents are usually covering up for a lack of talent themselves. Studying it is a bonus, learning the culture a bonus. BEING a member of the culture and living it is what counts. The person talking shit has no clue what they are saying, if they did, or understood the concept they would not be saying what they are saying. BBoyin is a piece of the soul, u accept it or not...if u do and live it than ur set. EXPRESSION.... i have a buddy who is in the same situation and all, i meen we are going to dance the summer away and all, cause we are both really busy at school with preforming arts and all like music, dance, theater... so this comming summer, we both be dancing till the sun sets ****** You and ur friend....dont let anyone get to u. They dont know what they are talking about. And bboyin is part of a life style, its part of what makes u you, but u cant put ur life on hold or screw it up because someone else tells u ur not spending enough time or not gettin good enough. Its an artform, who needs to be good. some people are happy their entire lives doing finger paintings of people because its how they express themselves, they would still be a painter, an artist...so why cant u dance when u can, love it and be a dancer, a bboy so when do you consider urself a bboy or girl? ******In short....when you dance, when u become part of the dance n make it part of you. Now adays theres a rush to see whos a poser, whos real n whos not, whos a breakdancer n whos a bboy. if u follow history that all goes away and if u follow what it means to be an artist it goes away. Bboys by definition are artists, we just dont draw or use clay, use stone or paint portraits, we define ourselves thru our artform. |

don't mind what other people say, your friend is probably just envious and stupid... if you love the dance and consider yourself a bgirl, you're a bgirl

u dont need to know the culture, u need to be a part of it. As u become part of the culture u learn more, there is no prerequisite on skill or knowledge.

what if you have no "bgirl name"?
i would consider myself an aspiring bgirl (taking classes, etc for almost a year) but have no crew/name yet... |
