Yes popping can be studied. You can go to classes and the best poppers learn from masters of popping not just from watching and then trying to emulate. I've done most of my learning of popping technique from vids and i can clearly see one defining difference between me and them. Their technique is USUALLY better than those who have self taught (although poppin rice is the exception)
