wrist straps? knee braces? - 03-09-2006, 03:50 PM

Hey. Sometimes i see bboys and bbirls with like wrist wraps, gloves, knee braces. Since i'm a heavier guy I think the wrist wraps could help, cuz after a session i can't move my wrist without having it hurt. Plus it looks sick, with the whole bboy look goin on. any suggestions anyone? where can i get em?

I really don't think wrist straps would do anything. Everytime I have seen them used for other applications besides bboying, they have been used to keep the wrist straight. There isn't any possible way you would be able to use them correctly, since your wrist is doing all sorts of crazy things anyways. If you want the whole look going on, get some sweat bands.

There have been plenty of heavy bboys thats do just fine. Hell I'm over 200lbs and I still bboy just fine.

I don't think a wrist strap would help at all. The wrist is a joint, which means you would need to be able to use it to bboy, all that a strap around it would do is limit your wrist's mobility, and maybe leave a rash where the wrapping ends. If your wrists are sore when you are done bboying you might be distributing weight on em improperly. You should be able to balance on your hands in almost any way shape or form if you make sure they're being set down properly. Another problem you might be having is maybe some air in your wrists, if you've had any wrist injuries, something might be very slightly off letting a little bit of air in that joint. A good sign of that is if your wrists pop when you're doing push-ups. Don't let that discourage you at all though, if that's the case, my wrists pop all the time, and the more I work on them the less they pop.

Does it pop the same way when you crack your knuckles? If so it might be the same thing.

It's not a weight problem, it's a wrist problem (although being heavy probably makes it worse). I'm only like 150 and I have the same problem. That arm wrap thing sounded good that someone mentioned. I'll have to try that for my elbow. One thing I've tried is volleyball wrist pads. I think they helped some, but not much. I just emailed my friend who's a gymnast about this and this is what he said
"as far as the wrists there are things to help. gymnasts use what they call wristies. which are supports for the wrists i don't know how you could get them but try looking at gymnastic web sights and gymnastic supplors and you'll find some"
So, that's what I'm planning on trying next.

Huh, I don't remember seeing anything like that. Is it just a fingerless glove? Btw, I think I found some of those "wristies" wrist supports my gymnast friend was talking about http://www.american-gymnast.com/cata....cfm?series=10

I wear a longer wrist bands ... I ussualy do a lot a elbow freezes ! I keep them on my elbows ! They are used and they aren't to tight so mobility is 100% normal, but they are og thick material and they protect from scratches.

I really like them ! When moist skin touches the floor, rashes occur ! And while you freeze, even more pressure takes place ... and worst rashes occur ! That\s why they are really usefull. They don't protect to much from falls or more violent stuff, but they do their wok nicely !
