Just to get this straight - 01-03-2006, 05:02 PM

ok, dont get mad at me for not knowing, its better asking then not knowing right? i really want to be sure about all this

ok, the 4 Hip Hop elements are: Bboying, Dj-ing, Mc-ing and Graffiti, right? (if im not right, correct me plz)

what about Funkstyle? popping etc? so that is not a part of the 4 hip hop elements? and you hear about "hip-hop dance" at dance studios, is that just a mix up of funkstyle and freestyle or something?

like i said, i want to get this straight

but to me they're still part of the elements

heres what wiggles had to say about the idea of four elements

IT WAS A NICE SLOGAN FOR A WHILE. BUT IT IS JUST NOT THE TRUTH. THAT WAS A PHRASE THAT ROCK STEADY CREW USED TO HELP BRING MORE ATTENTION TO LESSER KNOWN ELEMENTS. BUT IN REALITY THERE ARE OVER A DOZEN OR SO ELEMENTS THAT SHOULD BE RECOGNIZED.
BEAT BOXIN, FINDING BREAKS, FASHION, PRODUCTION IS NOW AN ELEMENT, PROMOTING A JAM, MAKING THE FLYERS FOR JAMS BECAME AN ART FORM, ECT. THESE ARE ALL SMALL BUT VITAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO OUR GREAT CULTURE.

yes , i like to call them sub-elements. although someone from the west coast might disagree. so why did they exclude funk styles. i guess because bboying just got more popular faster. and because new york was the first to establish itself as the home of hip hop.

the time is forever now

"MAKING THE FLYERS FOR JAMS BECAME AN ART FORM"
"BEAT BOXIN"

personally i think that beatboxing should fall under the MCing category. IM NOT SAYING THEY ARE THE SAME, i am saying that they are both mouth stuff and should fall under one category.

and the making flyers thing, i think that should fall under Graffiti cuz its both "paint" art in a way

i dont what "finding breaks" is...

but this is just my thought on this, dont take me serious and start flaming me

i think some1 should make a stickied thread in Word Up explaining the elements of Hip Hop etc and maybe in the end have a history of hip hop

its all sub cats if u ask me

emcee, u got beatboxing
graff, u got artwork on flyers
turntables, u got finding breaks

the reason its their own now adays is because there is even a big thing for JUST that category. there are people who STRICTLY do these things, promote, do artwork for flyers. its no longer one in the same

according to Style Wars, a graffiti movie made in the eighties, Rap is the spoken form of hip-hop...Breaking is the acrobatic body movement form...and Graffiti is the Written word, This all makes sence to me...I dont know if this is relevent...just throwing in my two cents...

i love that dvd! lol *freepost*

but yeah, i think that there is essentially the four elements of hip hop and like others have sed, different forms of interpreting these foundations have surfaced, but i would still categorise the 'sub-elements' under the 'four elements of hip hop.'

I guess you could break it into vocals, instrumentals, art, and movement--but that sounds to textbook to me.

It really isn't something that you can define--it isn't something you even need to define. When you know it, you know it--if it could be just layed out all in words like a math formula anybody could be it just by copying the formula--but we all know you can't really get there like that.

Yeah you may copy moves, and styles, and anything else--but regarless of whether you're copying or being totally origional, it's obvious when you really got it--amd when you don't.

It's like what's in your signature, VIVA--I don't wan't Michelangelo's soul takin' over my hand, I wan't my own soul to do it just as true to myself as he was to himself.

Every outward thing can be copied and faked, but not the soul--and that's what defines it.

I like the other two comments in your sig though.
