i took this with my SD400....had to practice keeping real still, shooting without the flash enables cool shots like this, but if you have shaky hands its just gonna be a blur.
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/macmason/IMG_1069.JPG this was from a breakers night organised by a guy named Joss thompson at Loughborough Uni for freshers week back in October |

Hey I really like the blue caste on the pic.
Is that and effect or a filter? Or is that the lighting in the room? It's true, you can get some lovely pics with long exposures, (though on the other hand it can be a bit blah sometimes too) What kind of exposure length was it? Must have been fairly quick still, as there's not much movement in it and it's INCREDIBLY sharp for a handheld if it's much longer than 1/60. If you're going to go for no-flash exposures in dark places (or long exposures anywhere for that matter) It's WELL worth getting a tripod. Not always practical to use them, but if you have one it enables you to make some really good shots with little or no shake. Some cameras even have a function where the mirror flips up (assuming you're using an SLR) a short while before the shot is taken to eliminate any shake from the mirror mechanism. Some tripods even have a hook on them that you can use to hang a backpack or something on to weigh the tripod down and make it even more solid. Then there's monopods fir when a tripod is too cumbersome. I've not taken any photos in a good while now, and not been able to afford the switch to digital without giving up SLR yet either so can't really post any - no scanner. Would like so see more though. |

i love taking pics without the flash, looks a lot more realistic, especially when the flash makes people's hair really shiny or takes away some of their facial features. that's awesome that you could get such little blur in the whole shot, good job.

Bright and cold the flash of steel,
Alone I roam over desolate fields, My sword, I need no longer, The evening wind will carry me home. |
