Question how long did it take? - 10-23-2005, 07:53 PM

well ive been breakin since like july and like theres definitely been progress mainly with my tops, ups, and footwork. and i even got a few good stalls and freezes. but still i cant really airchair and i cant flare or windmill. so im wondering if it normally takes this long, or if im just weak, or if i suck. thanx for any feedback.

sometimes you just have to act without thinking

theres a simple solution, dont practice flares or windmills or any of that garbage. learn your foundation, and your flavor. learn how to rock the beat. if you dont know what i mean by flavor, watch clips of machine breakin. look at his tops and footwork.

ok quick question regarding time limits and stuff. Ive started breaking literally today. Like today was my first practice. ikm goin on a school ski trip next feburary and we always go to some disco there where there is usually a lot of breaking goin on. I want to know what i should focus on for then because its what ...4 months? so im not sure what i will be able to do by then. Please reply with moves you think i should work on that i could nail within that time scale and how much i should practice. Cheers

an easy way to do mills is to know how to do them properly...but definatly start with basics and your own style.

depends cuz when i started i was shown how to do windmills and stuff. so to learn how to mill it seriously took me like 2 weeks lol. that was prolly cuz when i was younger i was not afraid of hurting myself at all and id just chuck myself in any direction until it worked out good for me.

but besides that ya its normal its taking time. hell it took me like 3 years to actually put flavor into my dancing. i guess that just comes with experience.

man its always the same stupid questions... a reason why i stoped posting in this side of the forums... its all on the dedication you put in it and how skilled you are... some learn faster then others and some just never get it... flares can take 2 weeks to 3 months or more... its all on dedication not timin...

word, it all depends on how much you practice. Shit, I've been breaking over a year and a half but would/could be equivelant to someone who practices everyday for 2 months straight or so.

I've been practicing for about 4 months and 3 days (6/22 i think). So far I got some tops, steps, swipes, backspin (easy as hell), some freezes, a lot of footwork moves, baby freeze, some of my own freezes (been working on one handed handstand freezes mostly), and I just got windmills down, and I barely practiced them because carpet = rapes yours skin. So, you should get some basics and maybe a few cool moves down before then. If you WORK on it that is, don't just learn some stuff for a disco. Actually, disco isn't for bboys, it almost killed it actually. Otherwise, you can easily get some stuff down before then.
