A b-girl at the Fresh Fest...da '80s -
08-12-2005, 11:27 AM
I'm not working with this event, but just thought I'd pass this on. I represented as a very young b-girl at a couple of the Fresh Fest concerts in the '80s. I still have a t-shirt, ticket stub, autographed promos, and best of all a back stage pass a member of the group Newcleus gave me that he said I had to battle a b-boy for and I did. A winning headspin back then earned me the opportunity to meet RunDMC, the FatBoys, Newcleus, Whodini, LL Cool J, the Dynamic Rockers, and others, but most importantly some of the dopest memories this b-girl will always remember. Some people who know me have seen the stuff organized in one of my hip hop memory books I take to b-boy events. It was all about b-girlin' for me since 1979 and supporting hip hop any time I could growing up, being the only b-girl in two cities for many years was never easy, guys never asked to be in a crew and I rolled solo even to these shows at 14 years old, but I never let that discourage me, I just wanted to get busy in a cypher and dance. So fellas, the females have been around for a minute. Anyway, I hope you all will always support and appreciate the old school!!....Peace.

1979! Wow, you must have tons of knowledge. Thanks for sharing a few memories. Anybody know how long has fresh fest been going on?

B-Boy Noni: It's all good.....thanks for the love....!!!
B-Boy Keen: "..each one, teach one" as a matter of fact, I'm trying to teach my niece and nephew. I didn't push them and just waited for them to let me know they wanted to learn. The Fresh Fest concerts were done in the early '80's and some shows now are just using the name, but with the same idea of an old school line up. Mistah Bobble: I wasn't part of the actual show, I was just happy to be there b-girlin' in the circles experiencing the whole vibe. |

freestyLe-babii: I've been popping for a pretty long time too, actually no thanks to my female curves (that came reeeaal early) I had to concentrate more on popping cause "my girls" get in the way....lol. It's all good though. I've always kept it feminine in the b-boy world.

bboy Ch1B1: As you read we've been around a long time, but if you are from Cali there are alot of girls representing well known and not. Where I've lived Chicago & Dallas, Tx., we're definately few and far between. Support the b-girls when you see 'em though, something I never got, but I know for the most part today's b-boys appreciate us more. That's good to see.
