Breakdance and Electric Boogie, same? -
08-07-2005, 03:54 PM
During breakdance competitions, I've often seen some people come out and do pop-lock moves like robot and wave etc... I'm not a popper myself, but it seems to me that breakdance and electric boogie seem to be the same dance, on the larger scale.
So my question is, when someone says Breakdance, does it include the entire scope, i.e. robots, bungaloo (I think that's what its called), footworks, toprock, uprock, flares etc..., or is pop-locking and electric boogie different from the regular bboy dance? |

Bboying = Toprock, Footwork, Power and Freezes. There's no such thing as Popping & Locking. There's a dance style, Popping and a dance style Locking. They CAN however both be reffered to as "Funk Styles". Bboy's often do funk style moves, and vice versa. That being said, don't expect to win against a bboy with your dope glides and don't expect to wina popping battle with your flares and shit. |

bboying and popping and locking and boogaloo and etc. etc. are different. popping locking and boogaloo are sometimes confused because people mix elements of one with another.
juss noticed, you two guys have the same post could :P |

Same here bro.
After I get better at breakdancing, I want to learn some pop AND locking (k, two different dances, i get that now ). You mentioned that you can't win against a bboy wit glides, juz as a bboy can't win a funk dancer wit flares etc..., but I see it all the time in battles.Bboy A: top rock, footwork, mill, 1990, air mill, freeze Bboy B: Starts gliding or popping Judge: so who won? |

Man yall are full of shit. Back in the day, everyone used to do everything. When my teacher toured with rocksteady (i ain't shitting you either, his name is BBoy Wizard and he teaches me) B boys did everything. They could pop, lock and break with everything from power to style. It's only more recently that popping is no longer considered bboying in the larger sense.
To be honest, i bboy and do funkstyles myself (better at popping though) and there is no difference considered between them by my teacher-we learn both and he thinks of both as bboying. Recently we had a tourny here in Newcastle (it was really pissy though, only 50 people turned up) and we had a couple of bboys who came from America competing. One of them who called himself Gambino-did some mad popping. I guess it's down to popular opinion or personal perspective-whatever you wanna call it, but to me the two link in closely-they were conceived around the same time and many have done the cross over between the two To all those who think otherwise, ask yourself then why we have a funkstyles forum on a bboy website. Do the math Peace |

For awhile, I've been trying to incorporate popping into Bdancing. I don't mean like you go up, do some bboy moves, then next round, u do some popping moves. I want to put them together, into one dance, so when you toprock, there's abit of hitting involved, and u add a slight bit of wave at the right place.
I can see it in my mind, and it should be cool. Might bring abit more variety to bdancing. |
